On a day which I am sure will be difficult for all of us either as people grieving for the Queen or because of the memories it stirs up. Just a note to let you know I will be thinking of you and, should you need to reach out to someone, I will be at the end of message at any time.

There is an eerie hush over the nation.
We all feel it.
As though everything has changed, yet all remains the same.
Past griefs are triggered into waves which rise tsunami style over our heads, bringing overwhelm and disarray.
A displacement has descended on us all.
I think the queen was everyone’s mum, everyone’s grandmother.
And we didn’t know it until now.
And then there are those who shame our feelings and insist we do not deserve to have them.
Ignore them.
You are affected by the collective grief and that is what makes you human.
And your body immediately reaches for old wounds to press, not realising the difference between someone you knew and someone you loved from afar.
For love is love and it all feels the same.

So allow yourself the mourning.
Visit the places within which still hurt for those you lost.
It is the only way to heal.

There is an eerie hush over the nation, you are not alone.
But do not fear this silence, it is a magical thing indeed.
It is love.

Love having time before a service to recap and focus. Sandwell Valley Crematorium has a fab little coffee shop and as I'm always here almost an hour early it's a great way to start the day. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🌈

“You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once”
You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realisation hits home,
they are gone.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realise,
they are gone,
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

After 2 beautiful services week for RW and DS I know a few more people who this applies to now. I get to meet so many lovely families through my role and count it a privilege to be able to help them as they transition from physical relationships to one of memory. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🌈
