Foot Alignment, Loading and Plantar Fasciitis

You will notice from the image that the normal foot showing pressure on the foot is centred around the heal 90% and the rest spread across the ball of the foot as used for balance. The shoe follows a similar pattern but limited wear on the heal and much more wear on the ball of foot.

The heel shows a circle of pressure where most plantar fasciitis occurs and spreads due to activity. Its important to note that the normal foot is showing pressure wile standing and forms the basis for all orthotics and insoles for plantar fasciitis development and design.

A couple of obvious questions spring to mind:

My Hip Replacement Journey

Week 1 - The First Day is Very Intense
I have had osteoarthritis for 22 years in both of my hips. I had my left hip resurfaced 12 years ago at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. I have recently had my right hip replaced at the same hospital, on the 10th December 2018.

This is my recovery story using rehabilitation exercises and functional fitness movements. Most importantly I used InterX therapy for pain and inflammation relief with no medication. The InterX device also promotes accelerated healing.

Best Boots for Plantar Fasciitis

This is a difficult one, because it depends on the terrain you are walking on.
If the ground is mainly paths or relatively flat grass a hybrid trail or approach shoe would be the ideal choice as it allows for ankle movement. This is essential in good foot mechanics and promote fascia healing
In this case the trail shoe needs the following:

➡️ Wide toe box (let your toes spread!)
➡️ Zero drop (flat from heel to toe)
➡️ Flexible sole for natural movement
Terms that only a casual review of the internet will make you aware.
Now the key thing to consider is how far you are walking and the terrain.
I have just returned from a fantastic holiday in the lake district. We walked every day, 2 days was in approach trail shoes, and five in supportive walking boots.
The crucial factor was the terrain five of the walking days were walking the fells, mountains of Skiddaw, Catbells to the Coffin trail and the Grizedale forest. It’s the Lake District in Autum so it rained intermittently each day so waterproofing and warmth were also a factor.
Now here’s the thing people do not consider:
Boots support your ankle so you have to walk differently with a good knee movement.
Up hill is more on toes and shorter steps, a slower pace with deliberate steps for footing
Downhill can be foot turned to the side, and a zig zag movement, or straight down with pressure on ankle and toes.
The flat is generally neutral and comfortable with worn in boots as they allow your ankle to move.
I covered around 150,000 steps on holiday and obviously on my feet for some time. Mine and my families feet ached and hurt post each day. We don’t have the time to walk this much normally so our feet had to adjust. Importantly the last 25000 steps none of us had any fatigue effects!
So Key things to consider if you have Plantar Fasciitis or are on the mend.
➡️ Invest in some new boots
➡️ Have your boot half to a full size bigger than normal and test with a thick sock
➡️ Tighten your laces to be supportive, but, allow ankle movement
➡️ Progressively increase your walking distance to do the longer distances
Important, people who have plantar fasciitis tend to find boots initially comfortable and less painful. This will be due to walking differently as outlined above. You should only wear boots for the terrain not as a temporary fix.

Odd week lots of change and plates spinning the concept of a headless chicken comes to mind, probably similar for you to one extent or another.

Netball, Golf, tennis, and Park run all have an extra participant this weekend as the people in question have all fully recovered from plantar fasciitis with my treatment plan.

All needed lots of modifications to the core treatment plan as obviously we are all different, but also had 4 activities that placed different demands on the foot when executing movement.

As Part of their recovery practice of movements was needed, from just serving practice in tennis to short burst running with a jump and a stop in netball.

They are all feel great and extremely pleased they committed to a programme of treatment.

I have spoke about recently success with a man who has Parkinson’s and had plantar fasciitis. Balance is an issue with Parkinson's along with coordinated movement. I have been reliably informed that he now walks past the pub on a 3 mile walk with the dogs.

He does not drink and the pub was 739 metres from his house. His first goal with me was to be able to walk to the pub, as he could only do short distances. A very specific distance he measured linked to his previous career.

He achieved this in 2 weeks.

We did this by breaking down the challenge, 25m first in one direction then back 25m. Focus on walking and speed technique. He did this 3 times a day for 3 days that’s all!.

3 days 50m the same way, then a 100m, then 200m on day 11 he text me and said how much better his foot was and should he aim to go further?

My response was to go for 400m as the pattern above would indicate. Structured magnitude of improvement.

He walked to the pub and had a coke feeling pleased with himself, Luckily his wife was home as his taxi back. At this point he had only had 3 sessions of treatment.

He has finished with me now and not only is walking most days but is back fly fishing which is a passion that he thought he would not be able to do again.

A result of this is I am now working with two more clients who have Parkinson's and plantar fasciitis, a common issue as foot drop on one side is common and overcompensation for balance and movement damage the other foot and the fascia.

Success is relative

If you plantar Fasciitis is holding you back from what you want to be doing, or simply painful when you stand up and walk, you are coping and its less painful at times, I can help, Significantly!

Remember if you cannot stand or walk in bare feet there is a issue, its like a tooth which is painful to touch or eat with, you cannot eat on the other side of mouth always.

Your Plantar Fasciitis can easily be solved by starting the process and booking a 1:1 Treatment and Assessment with me at my clinic in Stratford upon Avon.

You have plantar fasciitis it’s getting worse and you just want something to help!

The number 1 thing I recommend to help you is a foot rocker which you can get HERE https://amzn.to/3ZppJGF from Amazon.

I have purchased 148 since Christmas for clients in the clinic and Alexa keeps telling me based on my order history I need to order one.
Right so you have clicked the link and seen its around ÂŁ12 and the cheapest one on Prime available, you take a punt and buy it.
Don't read the instructions on how to use it as it will be too aggressive for your plantar fasciitis.

Watch this 78 second video HERE https://youtu.be/xltvMGqXQ2g

Now sit and execute for 5 minutes, use a timer as it will feel a long time. I would suggest to repeat on not injured foot. Do that at least every evening for a week and you will notice a difference.

If you want to find out more about why this works and how you can heel you fascia and eradicate plantar fasciitis will you commit to a programme of Plantar Fasciitis Rehabilitation HERE www.plantarfasciitisrehabilitation.com ??
