Well I did a thing, very rustic but I am very proud. A brilliant day with Jack at Steeky Meadow learning how to make spoons! We had the most amazing stay at the Who'd Have Thought It Inn, would definitely recommend as a base to discover Dartmoor. Sorry for the radio silence we have been enjoying the Narrowboat but we are back!

After a very stressful week involving cars failing MOT, new (to us) car having to go back and 50l of Diesel leaking into the Bilge on the Narrowboat the Adventure Overland show was the perfect tonic! Cool people, great friends and amazing vehicles! Oh and the odd beer and amazing Rum!

We really are a 3rd world country when it comes to connectivity! Rural Gloucestershire and no WiFi on EE or O2 yet west coast of Ireland sat on a beach miles from the nearest house every day over 70 Mbps!

Fabulous park up, if a bit blowy. The wind was so strong it kept blowing smoke down the chimney even though we have a storm cowl on the roof. The stabilisers were out as well to stop the lorry rocking. We had a glorious walk when we arrived luckily and got a good dose of vitamin sea!

On this day in history: 3 years ago 09/02/2021 I had a CT and bone scan. Later that day I got a phone call to say that the 💩 cancer was back and lurking in my liver, lungs, spine & ribs.
Bless my oncologist he was ringing to say could he see me at an appointment later in the week but I pushed him into telling me there & then.
To say it's been a turbulent 3 years is an understatement. But being reflective I also have an awful lot to be grateful for too.

Some things have been out of our control, while other things we have grasped with open arms. I am forever thankful for having Mark Stewart by my side. We debate whose daft idea something was. But on the whole we are muddling through. Guess what? That's exactly what everyone else is doing on the rollercoaster of life.

There are times in this 💩 storm when I hate my body. Feel betrayed by it. There are times when i feel sad &/or guilty of ways I must have mistreated myself to be in this situation. Then there are times when I think bloody hell it's showing some resilience in this bombardment of cancer & treatments. The key is trying to support yourself emotionally, mentally and mentally. This takes time & effort. It's bloody tough to navigate without feeling all consumed.
That's where you all come in. My beautiful family & friends. My cheerleaders, my friends who send daft messages & pressies. My primary & secondary school friends who managed to meet for a reunion last summer. For my fabulous set of friends who are also living with SBC. Who bolster me with love, info & insights. Some I meet face to face, some online. But we are always there. Some unfortunately have gained their wings and I miss them with all my heart. I will continue to live my life for them too.

A lovely weekend slightly marred by Boobers breaking down with the same issue as August that had us thinking the power steering pump had died. It turns out the adjuster on the alternator had snapped so the alternator was on the wonk and stopping the power steering pulley from turning periodically. New Alternator ordered so should be back up and running soon. Thankfully parked up with old friends and new so plenty of help and support!

Edit: She passed!

Today is MOT day for BoobyDo, good luck Boobers - sods law I jumped in to her to drive her to the MOT station 20 minutes from the marina where we live and the windscreen wipers wouldn't work! Luckily they sprang into life during the drive! Fingers crossed!!!!

So proud to be a part of this amazing campaign!

So proud to be a part of this amazing campaign!

“I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2016, and went through my treatment before heading on the road in my van thinking, ‘I’m cancer free!’

“I had a bit of a scare in 2019 where I had pain in my ribs and got a glimpse into secondary breast cancer life, then two weeks later was told this was just radiotherapy damage.

“Then in 2021, I had a similar feeling further round in my ribs. My oncologist ordered CT and bone scans and rang me the same day. That’s when he said it was secondary breast cancer.

“We had big plans. We built this horsebox while I was going through my primary treatment and were going to head off and go across Europe to wherever we could. We were in the process of selling the house, had got rid of lots of furniture – and then the news came that it was secondary breast cancer.

“So then I knew I had to stay on regular treatment – that curbed our travels quite a bit. We just have to keep thinking of things in 3-week loops at the moment.

“One thing that has shocked me is that people don’t know the signs and symptoms of secondary breast cancer. I think it’s also important that people know that while secondary breast cancer is incurable, it is treatable.

“If I had more time, I certainly would be travelling further afield.”

Rachel and her husband had big plans to travel across Europe in her van when she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. She’s determined to make the most of her time between treatment cycles, travelling across the UK and attending festivals.

That’s why we fund research dedicated to giving those living with the disease more time to live their lives to the fullest.
