👵🏻More likely in the 65+, women and the Obese

❓What are the symptoms?
- pain when kneeling, squatting and climbing the stairs
- grinding or locking sound/ sensation
- deep ache which is worse after sitting for long periods
- muscle wasting in the Quadriceps

According to The Faculty of Biological Sciences 🔍still only 27% of women are strength training despite the numerous health benefits which include:

✅ Reduction of injury rate including reducing falls.
✅ Increase in metabolism rate 🎂 this means more cake
✅ Disease prevention including heart disease ❤️
✅ Boost in mental health and wellbeing 🥰

‼️They also report that Women are more likely to experience ‘gymtimidation’ (25%) than men (16%).

In order to get your strength sessions in try the following:
➡️ Use a PT to gain confidence and knowledge in the weights you want to use.
💡Combine weights with another form of exercise if you struggle for time - maybe use weights during your pilates sessions.
👯Train with a friend to build confidence and enjoyment.

How do I train upper body when I have protracted/ rounded shoulders?
➡️ Because my main sport is swimming I am very strong and rounded in the front of my shoulders as most strokes are swum on your front.
✔️ most people are protracted due to desk jobs, poor posture or front heavy sports.
‼️Because of this I try to avoid too much Pec/ chest work and I train my back a lot as the muscles there are long and weak.
Here are my 6 go to exercises currently:
1. Skull crushers
2. T’s
3. Box Row
4. Y’s
5. Side Bend
6. Plank with dumbbell pull through

This weekend I start my new role as a ⭐️Tutor Assessor ⭐️ for the training company Future Fit.
I did my PT and Mat Pilates qualification with them nearly 15 years ago!

It seems like the next step in my career to pass on my knowledge and experience to the future fitness trainers 🤓

I start this weekend teaching the Mat Pilates to some novice teachers 🧘🏼‍♀️🧘🏽‍♂️

I can’t wait to start 🤩

‼️Struggling to work the muscles on the side of your body?

Try these three exercises in order working from beginner to advanced.

➡️ Aim for 15-20 reps each side
☑️ Lift the top leg to the ceiling without popping the knee forward.
☑️ keep the hips stacked.
❗️Only add the band round the knees if your form is good!
