This Christmas, look out for the symptoms of dementia, such as irritability, forgetfulness, struggling to follow a conversation, or being confused about time and place.

If you spot any of these symptoms in a loved one, encourage them to visit their GP for an assessment. http://nhs.uk/conditions/dementia/

Flu cases in hospitals have surged by 55% in the last week.

An average of 2,660 patients per day were in a hospital bed with flu last week. That’s enough flu patients each day to fill more than 3 whole hospital trusts.

The flu jab reduces your risk of becoming seriously ill this Christmas, and helps protect those around you.

Book via your GP, pharmacy or the NHS App.

Margaret’s Story: How Links for Life changed everything
Nine years ago, Margaret lost her husband and found herself feeling
isolated. Living alone and no longer working, she was struggling —
until she discovered Youth Almighty Project (YAP) through Links for
Life Sunderland.
Now, Margaret is out five, sometimes six days a week, joining
activities like craft and cuppa, and seated exercise.
"I’ve found a lot of new friends as well; the groups have saved my
sanity!" she says.
Margaret’s story is just one example of how Links for Life helps
people connect with their community to improve wellbeing.
YAP is one of 28 organisations funded by Government through the
UK Shared Prosperity Fund, to deliver community-led activities as
part of Links for Life Sunderland.
And there’s lots more on offer too.

🫁💙 Living with COPD? While there’s no cure, there’s plenty you can do to manage it and improve your quality of life. COPD happens when the lungs become inflamed, damaged and narrowed - often due to smoking, long‑term exposure to dust/fumes or genetic factors.

Here are some ways to live well with COPD:
🔹 Stop smoking - the single most effective step.
🔹 Take inhalers and follow your treatment plan to reduce flare‑ups.
🔹 Stay active, eat well, keep weight in check and avoid triggers like pollution or cold air.
🔹 Be alert to symptoms like persistent cough with phlegm, shortness of breath or wheezing - mention them to your GP.
