Feeling grateful after spending time with , sharing my research on how Play Therapy can support young carers.

Speaking isn’t really my comfort zone, but advocating for these amazing young people definitely is. Funding is always the crux, but every chat helps move things forward 🌱

My Pre-Session Moment

Before each session, I take a few minutes to recenter. I put on some instrumental Disney music (no judgment...it works for me) and focus on slowing my breathing as I reset the playroom.

Those quiet moments help me to settle and reconnect before welcoming the next little person in. Finding calm allows me to be fully present to notice, listen, and follow wherever their play leads us. 💛

🌈 If you were a child in the playroom today…
What would you play with first?
Build, roar, hide, draw...or something else entirely?
What might your play be saying today? 💛

Reaching out for support can feel daunting, but I try to make it as simple as possible....

👋 Step 1: Get in touch in a way that feels comfortable; DM me here, email (littlewings.playtherapy@gmail.com), or use my contact form on the website (www.littlewings-playtherapy.com/contact).

💬 Step 2: We’ll arrange a free initial chat. This is a relaxed and no-pressure environment — just a chance to share what’s happening with your child and learn a bit more about play therapy. You can book this here if you want to move straight to Step 2 - https://calendly.com/littlewings-playtherapy/00min

📅 Step 3: If it feels right, we book an assessment session and go from there.
You don’t need the “perfect words” to explain everything. Just start with, “I think my child might need some support.” That’s enough.

📍 Play therapy sessions are available in Chessington, Kingston upon Thames.

A friendly chat about what brings you to play therapy. I ask a few questions and tell you a little about how it works and the next steps.

Words aren’t always the starting point...
Children speak through movement first:
💥 Anger in stomps
🌪️ Fear in hiding
🌊 Sadness in stillness

In play therapy, we listen. But don't worry, when the body feels heard, words can also begin to grow. 🌱

🌱 Reaching out for support is a big step 🌱

If you’ve been wondering whether play therapy might support your child, I’d love to talk.

I know it can feel daunting to contact a therapist and share your worries about your child. It is a big deal, and it shows such courage.

I promise to meet your enquiry with warmth, respect, and understanding. Whether you are ready to begin or just want to ask a few questions, you will be welcomed without judgment.

🧸 New Toy Days!

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of adding a new toy to the playroom. I’m honestly like a child in a sweet shop every time! 🍭

Today I welcomed a beautiful knitted octopus, and I can already feel the stories and adventures waiting to unfold.

Each new toy is carefully chosen and introduced for a specific purpose... to invite fresh possibilities, offer new ways for children to express their feelings, explore the world, or enjoy being themselves. I love watching how each child connects with the toys in their own unique way. 💛

Ever started a puzzle and realised one piece isn't there?

Some children feel that way inside, like something doesn't quite fit or something is missing.

In the playroom, we don't hand them the missing piece. We explore the whole picture together.

Sometimes they find it themselves. Sometimes they see that the puzzle still matters even with a gap.

Play therapy isn't about fixing. It's about discovering.

The playroom is a space autistic children can truly be themselves 💫.

Play therapy meets them where they are, whether it’s exploring textures, ordering colours (like the photo), revisiting favourite stories, or creating in their own way. Every action has meaning.

The playroom is a space where autistic children can truly be themselves 💫, helping them navigate a world that doesn’t always bend easily as they might need.

What did you learn about anger as a child?

Was it explored, ignored or punished?

Many of us were taught that anger was “bad”. BUT.... if you’ve seen Inside Out, you’ll know that Anger isn’t the villain. He’s there to protect Riley ⚡. He jumps in when something feels unfair, unsafe, or out of control, making sure her boundaries are heard.

It’s the same for children in real life. Anger is a messenger 💌. In the playroom, it has space... not to cause harm, but to be understood, explored, and expressed safely.

✨ What message about anger do you wish you’d received when you were younger?

ADHD has always held a very special place in my heart. Throughout my life, some of the people I love most—at home and at work—have had ADHD. Their creativity, energy and unique perspectives are such a gift. Of course, it can also bring challenges, and the strength and resilience I have seen in these individuals is truly inspirational. I feel so grateful that through play therapy I can support some of the trickier bits that can come with ADHD, helping children find new ways to express, regulate and grow.

Awareness months like this matter so much for celebrating and acknowledging ADHD, dispelling myths, and encouraging greater understanding and support. 💜

One minute I’m a cow 🐄, the next I’m a superhero 🦸, and five minutes later I’m in need of serious medical attention from a four-year-old doctor armed with a toy syringe 💉.

Role play in the playroom can look a little chaotic, but it’s also a brilliant way for children to explore feelings, try out different roles, and make sense of their world. Whether they’re the rescuer, the villain, or the patient with seventeen broken legs, they’re learning about empathy, problem-solving, and expressing emotions.

And me? Well… I’ve learned to moo on command, take my medicine with a smile, and always say yes to a superhero cape. Because in play therapy, stepping into their story is where the real magic happens ✨.
