Recovering from a knee replacement takes time, care, and consistency 💙

Here are a few key tips to support healing and regain mobility:
💊 Pain management - Use medication, ice packs, and leg elevation to reduce swelling and stay comfortable
🧼 Wound care - Keep the area clean and dry, and watch for signs of infection
🏃‍♂️ Physical therapy - Start early and stay consistent to build strength and flexibility
⚖️ Lifestyle changes - Maintain a healthy weight and choose low-impact activities like swimming or cycling

‘How can care actually improve my loved one’s life and give them more independence and joy?’

Can I be honest? I’m a bit tired of how we talk about getting older or how we support people when they may need a little more help.

Like there’s this invisible line where suddenly people are supposed to slow down, stop trying new things, accept a smaller life. Where “acting your age” means settling for less.

There are so many celebrities out there now re-writing what age looks like 60, 70 and many more. Think Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Anthony Hopkins … and many more. But closer to home my clients are also tearing up the rule book too.

I work with an 82-year-old who is learning Italian on Duolingo. A couple in their late 70s who finally have time to properly who still enjoy date nights. A 48-year-old with a new health diagnosis who needs help running his own business and a 30 year-old who’s got a whole list of travel plans for next year!

None of them are doing it alone - they’ve got support that makes it possible. Someone to drive them there, help them prepare, give them the confidence to try.

That’s what care can be. Not a full stop. But a way of supporting people to live their best possible life.

We’ve got this all backwards. Getting older or having a life limiting health diagnosis doesn’t mean giving up on living well. Sometimes it means finally having the time and wisdom to do it properly - you just might need a hand to make it happen.

What’s the societal nonsense about ageing that makes you mad! Let’s call it out 👇

When Did You Last See Your Mum Smile?

Your dad says he’s fine. He can still make his own meals, manage his medications, get around the house. But when was the last time he had a real conversation? Laughed with someone? Looked forward to the day ahead?

Loneliness isn’t just an emotional issue—it’s a medical one.

Research shows that chronic loneliness

- Increases risk of heart disease by 29%
- Raises dementia risk by 50%
- Is as harmful to health as smoking 15 ci******es a day
- Weakens the immune system and accelerates cognitive decline

But here’s what the statistics don’t capture: the quiet mornings with no one to talk to. The inside jokes that no longer have an audience. The gradual dimming of someone who used to be vibrant.

THE SOLUTION: COMPANIONSHIP IS CARE

Home care isn’t just about safety and assistance—it’s about connection.

Our caregivers provide something you can’t get from a medical alert button or a pill organiser: genuine human companionship.

That means:

- Someone to share morning coffee and conversation with
- A companion for walks, errands, or favorite activities
- Regular social interaction that keeps minds sharp and spirits lifted
- A friendly face who notices when something’s off—or when something’s wonderful

We’ve seen it happen: clients who were withdrawn start telling stories again. People who stopped caring about meals suddenly want to cook their favorite dish. Faces light up when their caregiver arrives.

Because loneliness is dangerous. But connection is powerful.

Your loved one deserves more than just being safe. They deserve to be happy. Talk to one of our care team today 01372 417439 or email epsomandreigate@caremark.co.uk

Halloween can be a fun time for families, but for some older or vulnerable people, it might feel a little unsettling. Whether you’d prefer a quiet evening or want to join in safely, here are a few simple ways to feel more comfortable:

🚪Only answer the door if you feel okay to do so. Keep a light on, use a door chain or spy hole, and trust your instincts.
👻 Look out for who’s knocking. Trick-or-treaters are usually children with adults nearby. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay not to answer.
📜 Not taking part this year? A friendly sign on your door can let visitors know you’re not joining in.
🕯️ Keep things calm indoors. Closing the curtains and keeping the TV or radio on can help soften outside noise and reduce anxiety.
🎃 Want to join in the fun? Pop a pumpkin or small light outside to show you’re happy to welcome trick-or-treaters. Keep a bowl of sweets nearby so you’re ready.
💙 Need a hand? Our Care Assistants are here to help - whether it’s picking up treats, putting up a sign, or simply being there for reassurance.

Let’s make Halloween feel safe, calm, and inclusive for everyone 🌟

Award winning Care Company opens its doors in Epsom, Banstead and Reigate

People living in Epsom, Banstead and Reigate can now access services from the national award winning company Caremark (Sutton)

People living in Epsom, Banstead and Reigate will now be able to use the services of the national award winning care company Caremark (Sutton). The company has built a powerful reputation in the London Borough of Sutton, as being at the forefront of a social movement to transform the way that we care for people in their own homes. Operations Director Hannah Drury, who has already picked up four national business awards, for leadership in this sector, is just 27 years old. She inherited the company from her step father who very sadly died from Motor Neurone Disease two years ago. On the expansion Hannah said: "We have been inundated with calls from people living in Epsom, Banstead and Reigate who have wanted to use our services. Until now we have had to turn them away. This has been incredibly difficult as we know how good loving professional health and social care can transform people's quality of life." Hannah says that her, and her new leadership team, aim to transform care in the area, along the lines of what has happened in Frome in Somerset. With a focus on tackling loneliness and isolation Frome has been named the most friendly place to live in England. The social movement, to improve quality of life, has also led to a significant reduction in hospital admissions. Hannah added: "As a community we need to get better at caring for our most vulnerable citizens. We see daily how people's lives are transformed when they receive the support they need. People can still live hugely worthwhile and enjoyable lives, despite limitations. "Our mission is simple. We support each and every single client in a bid to get them to live the best life possible. We see a person with possibilities, not an illness."
