BCG vaccine produces a "trained immunity response" which lasts more than a year

The immune boosting benefits of a tuberculosis vaccine can be seen in infants more than one year after vaccination, according to a new study.

The research, led by the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and published in Science Advances, has shown how the BCG vaccine, developed to prevent the risk of tuberculosis, can produce a 'trained immunity response' lasting more than 14 months after the vaccine is administered.

Before Reema participated in our Clinical Trials Administrator Beginners course, she hadn’t considered pursuing a career in clinical research. That was until Covid-19 changed our world, and she wanted to play a role in helping to change lives, support the NHS and help bring life-saving drugs, medicines and technologies to markets.

Have you met our course convener Donnamarie?

Donalds is one of our course conveners at CGX Training. Like so many Clinical Trials Professionals, when Donnamarie left university, she wasn’t aware of the rewarding work the Clinical Trials industry had to offer. She explored the many different roles and responsibilities across the industry, with additional training and qualifications along the way.

What is the difference between brand-name and generic drugs?

There is no difference between generic and brand-name drugs in terms of active ingredients. Despite this, they usually cost much less than brand-name products.

FDA approval standards are rigorous before a generic drug is approved. According to the FDA, generic drugs must be "pharmaceutically equivalent" to brand-name drugs.

New clinical trials deal struck to better protect world from future pandemics

As a result of a landmark resolution brought by the United Kingdom and Argentina at the World Health Assembly (WHA), millions of people around the world will be better protected from future pandemics.

In addition to helping developing countries increase their capacity to run their own clinical trials, the resolution aims to help other countries respond faster to future pandemics by strengthening collaborations across countries.

We were delighted to have St George's University students for a 6-week work placement with us at CGX training. We were thrilled to work with St George’s University again after our inspiring day with them in February at their Dragons’ Den assessment day.

The students had a fantastic time with us, provided some very positive feedback and learnt a great deal about what’s involved on a day-to-day basis in the clinical trials sector.

The students also enrolled on CGX Training's Clinical Trial Assistant (CTA) course to give them further insight in the industry.

Here’s what one of the students had to say: "CGX provided flexible and adaptable work. The skills that we learnt covered presentation and public speaking skills, IT and administrative skills, critical thinking, team work, organisation skills".

At CGX, we’re always looking to provide opportunities for young people, If you or an organisation you’re a part of is interested, get in touch with us today - https://bit.ly/3H7ohym
