๐ฌ Why Weโve Introduced an MDS Charge and Why We Need Your Support
Weโve introduced a ยฃ35 monthly charge for our Monitored Dosage System (MDS) service. This has not been an easy decision, but itโs become unavoidable.
The MDS service is not funded by the NHS in Wales, despite the significant staff time, resources, and clinical oversight required to deliver it safely. For years, weโve absorbed these costs because we know how essential this service is for many patients. But continuing to do so would threaten the long-term sustainability of your local pharmacy and the NHS services we provide every day.
To put this in context, over the past year Medihub Pharmacy has treated more than 500 patients through the Common Ailments Scheme and provided over 700 consultations through our Independent Prescribing service โ saving countless GP appointments and supporting NHS access.
Weโre not alone in facing this pressure. Many independent pharmacies across Wales have already introduced MDS charges simply to stay viable. Without national funding, more will inevitably have to make similar decisions.
๐ฌ Weโre asking for your support.
If you value the services your local pharmacy provides, please write to your local Member of the Senedd (MS), such as Rebecca Evans MS, and call for NHS funding for pharmacy-based compliance services like MDS.
Every message helps raise awareness and push for fair funding across Wales.
Weโll also carry out individual patient assessments to identify whether alternative support options, such as the MAR chart scheme, are suitable.
Thank you for your understanding and for standing with your local pharmacy. ๐
