Grateful for the opportunity to coach in International football with Gibraltar Under 19s at the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers in Zagreb, Croatia the last 10 days, playing games against Serbia, Croatia and Georgia.
It was a great experience for me meeting a whole new group of staff and players for the first time. With a population of around just 40,000 in the country itself, obviously it’s hard to compete against bigger footballing nations but it was great to experience the challenge first hand nevertheless.
It’s fair to say it was an eye opener for me in terms of how the UEFA appointed referees from the likes of Germany and Denmark officiated the games compared to games in England. Where you want your players to really compete physically, the games felt almost non contact with the amount of free kicks and yellow cards that were brandished which made games very stop start and something you had to try and manage.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to coach on the international stage and add more experiences alongside my English football league first team and Academy experiences on my CV.
Back to England tomorrow!
