We’re asked these types of questions regularly, so I thought I’d put them all in one post! 🩵
What is eczema?
Eczema (also called atopic dermatitis) is a long-term skin condition that makes the skin dry, itchy, inflamed, and sometimes sore. It’s really common in children but can affect anyone, at any age.
Is there a cure?
Sadly, there isn’t a cure right now. But the good news is there are ways to manage it through skincare routines, avoiding triggers, using prescribed treatments, and finding what works best for each individual.
What causes eczema?
The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but we do know it’s linked to an overactive immune system and a problem with the skin barrier. This means the skin struggles to hold in moisture and protect against irritants, allergens, and bacteria. Genetics, allergies, and environmental triggers can all play a part.
For Harley, his biggest triggers are genetics and the environment, with heat being the hardest to manage. Sadly, this means that on around 70% of hot days, we spend our time indoors and away from the sun to keep his skin comfortable.
🩵Every child’s eczema journey is different. What works for one may not work for another. That’s why awareness, support, and sharing experiences matter so much🫶🏼.
