Dave Fry was diagnosed with Major Depression in his 30s and was placed on 3 psychotropic medications. In this interview https://youtu.be/AenDX_tkQtA
I hear how he recovered from a 30 year struggle with depression and anxiety. He goes into detail about his process of inner awakening that resulted in sustained relief from intense negative thoughts and feelings. As he describes:

'I started to witness how my thinking works. I could hear my negative thoughts arrive, one after another, and see that I was strangely okay. We innocently get caught up in our thinking and believe that those thoughts are who we are.'

This is a beautiful, free flowing conversation that grows in depth, and is interspersed with moments of laughter and light-heartedness.

Dave's YouTube videos are amazing and I would thoroughly recommend subscribing to his page or getting in touch with him if his words resonated with you.

I’m delighted to be part of a panel discussion this Friday the 19th following a screening of Medicating Normal, a multi award winning film as part of a Mental Wealth Mastery Summit. The screening will be followed by a live, expert panel discussion and Q&A.

‘Expert panelists include Dr. Bryan McElroy, GP with a special interest in mental health, Laura Delano, Executive director at Inner Compass Initiative, Angela Peacock, veteran advocate and Dr Sandy Steingard, critical psychiatrist.’

The film documents the journeys of five individuals profoundly impacted by the medications they were taking and challenges the reliance on psychiatric drugs to deal with trauma, grief and distress.

This film was an eye-opener for me and to be very honest, I felt uncomfortable and sad watching it at times. The core message is not to be anti-meds but pro-informed consent.

The summit is unique in that we bring together unconventional voices from the field of mental health, innate health coaching and functional medicine to highlight the challenges and also offer solutions.’

There is an amazing lineup of speakers. To find out more about the summit and to book your place for only £5, use this link -

EP163: Minds Worry

All minds do the same things. The details and content may vary slightly, but the tricks a mind gets up to are universal.

The next five episodes of Changeable will feature 5 of these things all minds do, based on five chapters in my upcoming book: minds worry, minds compare, minds problem solve, minds think we’re not good enough, and minds dramatize.

This is important to see because when we don’t realize that all minds do these things, we take it personally. We get lost in the story, not realizing it’s a story. We try to change what our mind is doing, making it far worse.

When we do realize “that’s just what minds do”, we’re free to glimpse what’s beyond these stories and mind games.

In this week’s episode, we look at how all minds worry. It’s a function of their design. It’s evolutionary. It’s logical. And it’s something we’re no longer so affected by when we see it for the universal process it is.

Six week online course in developing Space Awareness starting at 5pm today. Anyone welcome to come along & see if you enjoy session one.

Living with more spatial awareness has many positive effects including:
- Feeling mindful in 3 Dimensions, of yourself as well as your surroundings
- More depth as well as space in your relationships
- Being less caught up in recurring thoughts that grapple for your attention
- A different relationship to pain - physical or emotional
- Improved posture or sense of balance
- A greater sense of ease, choice and freedom of movement

The course runs online via zoom every Saturday from the 24th of July from 5pm for 45-60 minutes. I would encourage participants to enter the zoom room between 16.50 and 17.00 as we will start at 17.00 sharp. We will finish between 17.45 and 18.00. Please bring a diary or something to write on and an open mind to each session.

How are Stillness & Space connected to Mental Health or lack thereof with overwhelm? What exactly is “Stillness” or Space”? How can a direct experience of stillness impact your mental health in a lasting way? I explore this area in depth in this wonderful conversation I had with my friend Chris who works as in Craniosacral therapy (as well as having a PhD in quantum chemistry!) I really enjoyed this conversation & would be grateful for any feedback

I invite a friend, craniosacral therapist with a PhD in quantum chemistry to discuss the vital topic of space and stillness, the lack of which in our persona...

Hello,

The Alexander Technique session of Saturday went really well & was well attended with over 20 people on Zoom. It was great to have so many people interested and curious about exploring the Alexander technique.

Patrick, Rafe & I are running 3 separate 6 week courses back to back running for the next 18 weeks, each of us taking the lead for 6 weeks & helping facilitate each other’s break out rooms (45 mins of guided work followed by 15mins of discussing the material, clarifying questions in small groups with Rafe, Patrick & I).

Rafe’s ‘Finding balanced support from the ground up’ course - 1st May- 5th June.
Patrick’s ‘Body mapping & exploring the user guide to the body for optimal use’ course 12th June -24th July
My ‘Being in balance & spatially aware in everyday life’ course 31st July - 4th September.

We will all be exploring the Alexander technique in different ways/ emphasizing different themes in our own ways. If you are unsure or on the fence about whether you want to attend a full course. You are welcome to join any of the first sessions of the 6 week course & if any of them resonated with you, you could attend for the remainder of the course(s). We are looking for reasonably regular attendees so if you do decide to go on a course, it would be best to attend at least 4/6 of the sessions to get the essence of what is on offer.

The zoom link is the same as the one I sent before:

It is all donation based, so you can pay as you please for each session/ course. The time is the same every week 5pm on a Saturday.

If you were interested please let me know ASAP so I can pass your email address on to my colleagues Rafe & Patrick & they can invite you on to their courses via an introductory email.

Please feel free to choose as you please, though I think you may find the course(s) really interesting, potentially very helpful & you may feel a number of subtle shifts in perception over the course of 6 to 18 weeks allowing you to feel lighter, more present, more balanced and alive in your body and mind.

Very best wishes & thanks once more for attending,

Bryan

Hello!

I hope this post finds you well, in a place of lightness rather than heaviness and enjoying the beautiful Spring - Summer transition.

Please find below a little information on a session a couple of Alexander friends of mine and I are planning for this Saturday (followed by a series of sessions for those interested in continuing)

Let me know if you would be interested in attending as it would be helpful to know who and how many people will be tuning in. Also, feel free to pass on to anyone else you think this may be of interest to.
