Our CEO, Imran Hakim shares a personal story, one of family, sacrifice, and the journey that built HG.

It’s a powerful reminder of why we do what we do, and to be grateful to the people who make it all possible.

20 years it’s taken me to write this message! 😳

This past week has really forced me to reflect on life. I always talk about my journey from the point I qualified at university – the reality is this journey started a long time before then…..

A young girl arrived in the UK leaving her family behind at the age of 14, barely speaking the language and not knowing anybody – with no assets other than a passport, a suitcase with some clothes, and the most beautiful heart! She, together with my late father made many sacrifices to give me and my siblings the opportunity, to dream BIG.

We had very little in material things but our lives were full with one another, with love and all the nourishment that a family environment provides, together with an upbringing steeped in the same family values that are at the core of all things HG today and the bedrock of this special culture that permeates throughout the business.

My dad worked 2 jobs to make ends meet – a bus driver by day and the night shift would be with my mum, his brothers, and their wives at Hakims tandoori take away on Tonge Moore road, Bolton. However, my mum worked a further 3 jobs on top of that – sewing, cooking 500 chappatis a day for the local faith school, whilst raising us 5 kids.

We didn’t own a house when I was growing up at 16 - from living with my parents and 4 siblings in my grandmas 2 bed bungalow, to starting HG with a 2k loan from my dad….. 600 acquisitions later it has been one helluva journey……

What I have learned is that it’s not about the number of practices, or the practice turnover, or any other metric…. It’s the positive impact and service to others that makes this journey through life so worthwhile. The proof is in the hundreds of messages I have recieved from our team - they would bring a tear to your eye!

The emotional energy and love in the room last week was palpable! A beautiful occasion befitting the milestone. The whole room was in tears when my mum got up to say a few words. Whilst I wish my dad was with us to mark our latest milestone, I am blessed that my dear mum is - the joy and happiness on her face was priceless…..

For everyone who has played a part on this journey, however small, I just want to say a simple THANK YOU. You have all made a far greater positive impact than I will ever be able to articulate🙏

Proud of our HG work family for making such a difference to the lives of many ❤️

Then again it was just an amuse-bouche given the journey we are on….. just a pit-stop….. as we turn the page on a new chapter with Vision2030 - I can honestly say, we are just getting warmed up and the best is yet to come! 💪

The well experienced team at John Biddle's know their patients very well and are dedicated to providing the best possible service. We aim to provide the most thorough eye examination in an unhurried and relaxed environment. We want you to feel at home and able to not be embrassed to ask any question about your eyes that is of a conscern to you. The John Biddle Optometrists provide a full range of services for both private and NHS patients including eye examinations for adults and children, contact lens consultations, check ups and cataract assessments.

Our team of dispensing opticians also have a wealth of experience advising on the frame styling and the latest lens technology. They are also expert at the fitting and adjusting of the frames to ensure you get the most comfortable fit and get the optimum vision through the lenses.
