Today we held the first Fontan School of 2026, welcoming families whose children are preparing for their next stage of heart surgery.

Fontan School is an interactive session where parents have the opportunity to ask questions and talk directly with the clinical team about what lies ahead. At the same time, the children spend time with Sammi, the hospital play specialist, who helps them understand what to expect during their hospital stay through play based activities.

To mark the day, each heart child who attended received a special Fontan bear, which we purchase from as a small token of comfort and encouragement for their journey.

At Village Financial Services what matters to our clients matters to us. Every year we hold a charity draw for our clients to nominate a good cause close to their hearts. Whether it is a local school PTA, a national charity or a local organisation in need of a boost we ask our valued customers who they would like us to give back to.

Thank you to everybody who nominated their good causes. Our 10 charities who will each receive Β£100.00 in 2026 are.

We were deeply moved and saddened by the video shared by Jesy Nelson, confirming that her twin daughters have been diagnosed with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Our hearts go out to Jesy, Zion, their family, and everyone affected by this news.

SMA UK is here for everyone affected by SMA, offering support, trusted information, and community. Early diagnosis can make a life-changing difference, which is why we continue to campaign for SMA to be included in the UK’s newborn screening programme. No family should face the heartbreak of a preventable delay in diagnosis.

Well, well, well, who would have known? Some Elfs also do a daily e***a before they fly to the North Pole to let Santa know how the kids are behaving.
*If there was a contest, this super creative mother would have won it - we loved it. We always tell families that we have patients in all professions doing daily e***a, now we will add: even an Elf!

The Kate's met in Edinburgh after being invited to attend The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh annual meeting where the theme was 'lived experiences'. Kate Tyler delivered a talk on her experiences of living with ARM, the impact that it has on all aspects of well-being, and the importance of successful transition and lifelong care into adulthood. The talk was very well received being described as wonderful, insightful, powerful and valuable for surgeons to hear what is most important to patients.

As we approach the festive period we have decided to create a fundraiser for our small charity.

We know that people often like to donate to charity rather than sending cards over the festive period so this is an easy way to do that.
