Elite clubs have access to cardiac screening… but what about teams lower down?
When one of our employee’s teammates at York City Ladies Football Club collapsed on the pitch last year with an undiagnosed heart condition, it raised a question for us: what screening options really exist across different football tiers?
The reality is that cardiac screening is difficult to access for most clubs unless they’re classed as ‘elite’.
At CardioLogic, we’ve been working to change that – bringing practical solutions to grassroots football. And this week, we took another big step forward! 🔥
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of training the Birmingham County FA on their brand-new 12-lead ECG device – and what a fantastic team they are. We’re delighted to welcome them to this cardiac screening initiative, following on from North Riding County Football Association. 🎉
For those unfamiliar, the device uses a pre-positioned electrode patch that sticks centrally to the chest. It can be applied by anyone – no medical training required. In fact, the Birmingham staff administered it themselves for the very first time yesterday. Results are then sent securely to our cardiologists via the cloud, with reports returned within a week.
This technology is a genuine game-changer – not just for football, but for any sport or organisation without medical professionals on-site.
We’re excited to be part of this initiative and can’t wait to see it grow across more counties, sports, and schools. Next week, we’ll also be at the HMC (The Heads’ Conference) to share this innovation with the education sector.
