Life before Birth certificate's! Do you know that birth certificates only became a thing in 1837? Prior to that genealogists are reliant on parish registers like this fabulous document from 1773 and the parish of Sutton on the Forest. What a beautiful village! William Bell was the son of William and Ester. It is fortunate that we have the name of the mother, it was common in this period to just record the father's name unless the record is recording illegitimacy. At this time King George the 3rd was on the throne, known for his madness. Capt James Cook was touring the Antarctic.

Well after a long journey of research ( with a summer break due to the heat in my office) the Punter/Flintham half of my present book is coming to an end. It has been fascinating with military history, railway history, agriculture and more importantly finding long lost family graves. I can't wait to see it printed.

Afternoon everyone, I know it's early but I am gearing up towards Christmas. I will be doing the same offer as last year and providing a 5 hour research voucher for you to give as a present. I am doing this now as some customers wanted the research carrying out for Christmas to give the information as a gift.
This research is a taster as to what is available to you. Last year my leather bound books were a very popular, but special gift for a number of you. So please get in touch if this ticks your boxes x

I love a fresh new family tree and I am grateful to Andy Unsworth and family for letting me share it with you. I have been everywhere from the streets of Poplar in London to the Mills of Manchester, with a little bit of military history thrown in as well. So over the next few weeks I will be building more detail as the basic plan is more or less complete

During my research into Edward Proctor I discovered this fabulous document from 1801. It's a reminder of how difficult documents can be to interpret. This is a land registry document from Selby in Yorkshire. Sadly so much information from the document has been damaged and lost.

As my research went on into John Wilburn, I discovered that that John married Elizabeth Hewitt in Sheffield parish church now the cathedral and they then moved into Doncaster. John was widowed in 1860 and lived by himself in Printing office Street. The image of Doncaster isn't from this era, due to the motorised vehicles.

Hello everyone happy Bank Holiday weekend. Today's research is in Haxey as I research for a leather-bound book. I am looking at John Wilburn born in Haxey, Lincolnshire in 1806 and baptised in the church seen in the photo. Haxey is famous for it's rugby scrum game called the Haxey Hood which dates back to the 14th Century.
