I love finding old postcards/photos of places my family/ancestors once lived. My maternal grandparents lived here, so many happy memories of another time. Do you collect postcards, photos or google addresses of where your ancestors once lived?

The joy of finding family items when sorting through the attic!! Memories of my dear dad to record and store safely to hand down to my children and grandchild. Do you have items in safe keeping to hand on to your family?

So pleased to have tracked down John Evans one of my 3rd great-grandfathers. So surprised to find him in the 1861 census as a tailor in Cenarth, Wales. In 1871 he had moved to my hometown and by 1881 he lived around the corner from where I grew up! But he had changed his job to an Inspector of Nuisances!! Apparently a forerunner of today’s Public Health Inspector. Quite a change of occupation but all the other details on the census records are the same i.e. family names; places of birth, approximate years of birth. Do you have an ancestor that changed their line of work? What were their occupations?

Another unlabelled photo from my collection! An interesting looking workplace, with most of the men wearing aprons? My great grandfather George Griffiths was a woodworker/cabinet maker...I wonder if he is one of the men in this photo? What do you think?

My paternal grandfather Joseph Collins Fry worked here. He followed in his father’s footsteps working on the railways. There are many employment records available that can help build a bigger picture of your Railway Ancestors! https://www.National archives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/railway-employment-records-1833-1956/ is a good place to start researching. Do you have any Railway Ancestors?

On this day in 1829 my 3rd great-grandparents Benjamin Griffiths and Charlotte Jones were married in Llangunnor, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Unfortunately this is where this line finishes, my next challenge is to see what records I can locate to enable me to go further back… goingbacktomyroots familyhistory familyhistorian lineage heritage familystory directlineancestors ancestry ancestors carmarthenshire family olddocuments records sources

The census year of 1861 is early Industrial Revolution, which means most products are still hand-made by local trades people. I came across a vanishing occupation of “currier”. In a village location they would be involved with creating items such as work boots, waterproof clothing, leather “best attire” e.g. (shoes, gloves, bags, clothing), and a multitude of items associated with horse transportation (saddles, bridles, harnesses, straps, riding attire).
Did any of your ancestors work in a trade utilising leather?

This building is 34 Marshall Street, London where in 1856 my 2x great grandparents William Beaverstock (a boot maker) lived with his wife Elizabeth Harriet and their family. Think I need to make a list of places my ancestors lived in London and plan some walks to see where they lived!
Have you walked around the areas where your family once lived?

This is Willebroek, a suburb of Antwerpen where in 1802 my husband’s 3rd great-grandmother Maria Elisabeth Van Den Eede was born. She was married to Philippus Moens and they had a daughter Joanna Maria.
Next is to see what else I can find, hopefully transcribed into English!!
