Now offering acupuncture! Here I am using one of my new skills to help treat an acute shoulder injury. Acupuncture is a beautifully effective technique that has amazingly power painkilling and anti-inflammatory effects. Although many people are divided in the mechanisms that cause theses effects the evidence is overwhelming that it works. ⠀

Often Western medical technique uses a compartmentalised approach and needle the local area to elicit the effects, however understanding how points all over the body can have a physiological change globally can create incredible results and not only improve the injured area but have lasting effects on the mind.⠀

Images above show needling session on some distal points and some FMRI scans of the brain pre and post needling sessions, showing the physiological changes in the brain showing acupuncture is much more than just jabbing needles in! ⠀

FMRI results Map of brain response to 18 different acupuncture points.⠀

This is a short overview of Gerald's journey. He approached me wanting to drop a couple of stone and be able to cycle across Africa, 500km in 5 days for charity. We had 9 months to change his lifestyle and overcome ongoing injuries that he had picked up over the years. Through training in the gym twice a week, and giving him guidance in his nutrition and helping with any soreness through massages we got there. Nothing complicated, nothing over the top , just very simple processes that allowed him to achieve such an impressive feat. Not only has he now completed his challenge, he informed me that activities that usually caused him a lot of discomfort now have become easier and he has seen himself improve in other areas of his life. It was a pleasure to work with him and excited to see if here is a new challenge ahead! via ripl.com

Do you enjoy what you do?

Do you get excited when you think about the next bout of exercise you have planned?

If no? Why not!?

If you enjoy something you are more likely to keep doing it.

It doesn't matter why you enjoy it, of you like the community aspect of a class, throwing weights about the gym or love being outdoors.

Find what you enjoy and it becomes a lot easier to keep going!

Accept yourself for who you are now; and know that you deserve to be better.

too often we try to loose weight, gain muscle mass, become fitter for others to accepts us, thinking we will now feel better about ourselves.

YOU MUST TRAIN FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR GOALS.

Not until you accept the real truth and motivation behind your goals do you really start to see progress and improve your commitment to the cause.

Reflect on why you do what you do and make sure you can look in the mirror and say to yourself 'What has lead me to here has made me who I am, but I am now ready to get better, I deserve it, I owe it to MYSELF.'

Until you can honestly say that and accept it. progress may be limited and you will more often than not keep falling off the wagon.

When exercising, eating, or generally anything, do you understand why? Do you just accept what you are told and not worry that it might be outdated or wrong.
Please always ask your coaches/PTs why you are doing things and don't accept any old answer. Make sure it makes sense to you!

This guarantees 2 things
1) it make us better at our jobs, meaning we have to really understand our programming for you
2) it means you can make informed decisions and give us the right kind of feedback.

Always ask why and good coaches will explain and make you understand!
