Supporting people living with dementia to stay connected with their community is something I’m truly passionate about

This week has been full of lovely moments, from taking one lady to the hairdresser for a fresh new look, to enjoying a meal out with another client, and even spending some peaceful time pottering around the garden

It’s so important to keep enjoying life, no matter the stage of the journey. Getting out, staying active, and doing the little things that bring joy can make such a big difference.

I feel incredibly lucky to have a job where I can support such wonderful people and be part of these special moments every day.

Spring is on the way
Out for a morning walk with my client and we spotted these beautiful little daffodils. After all the grey sky’s seeing these is like a quiet reminder that brighter days are coming.
Fresh air, gentle movement, and the first signs of spring! such a lovely way to start the day.

🎶 The Power of Music in Dementia Care 🎶

Today I had the absolute pleasure of visiting one of my lovely clients, and we spent some time listening to jazz music together. Within moments, I saw such a beautiful change. 💛

Music has an incredible way of reaching places that words sometimes can’t. For those living with dementia, familiar songs can spark memories, lift mood, reduce anxiety, and create meaningful moments of connection.

As the jazz music filled the room, I noticed a real difference, a brighter expression, relaxed body language, even a little rhythm in their hands. It was a reminder that music isn’t just background noise… it’s therapy, it’s comfort, it’s memory, it’s joy.

Even when memories fade, the feeling that music brings often remains. And in those moments, we connect not through confusion, but through shared experience.

Never underestimate the power of a favourite song. 🎷✨

✨ About Me — Alison Hannah ✨

Hi, I’m Alison, and I’ve been proudly working in care for the past 10 years. During this time, I’ve achieved both my Level 2 Adult Care Worker qualification and my Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, building strong knowledge and hands-on skills to support individuals with a wide range of needs.

I began my career working night shifts as a senior carer, supporting staff and ensuring smooth, safe, and consistent care for residents through the night. I later moved onto day shifts, which included hospital appointments, meaningful activities, and days out with residents — experiences that deepened my passion for supporting people in a holistic, person-centred way.

Over the years, I’ve developed a special love for working with individuals living with dementia. I believe strongly in promoting independence, offering choice, and providing calm, compassionate support that respects a person’s identity and routine.

More recently, I’ve had the opportunity to support people within their own homes, and I’ve realised this is the path I truly want to continue. There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping someone remain comfortable, confident, and safe in familiar surroundings.

I’m happy to support with a wide range of day-to-day tasks, including:
• Light household jobs like hoovering 🧹
• Shopping and errands 🛒
• Companionship visits ☕
• Support for family carers who need a well-deserved break ❤️
• Waking nights or sleeping nights for short stays, giving you peace of mind while you’re away 🌙

I am also experienced in palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring comfort, dignity, and respect at every stage while honouring each person’s wishes.

I’m dedicated, trustworthy, and passionate about making life easier, safer, and more meaningful for those I support — and I always strive to deliver care that feels personal, respectful, and reassuring.
