I have had a wonderful 2 days at Goodwoof, Goodwood Racecourse. What a stunning venue. Over 230 dogs passed through Galen display team where we went through a couple of massage techniques. Many sweet and gorgeous dog cuddles too!

New Year - New Trick! I have introduced Pudding to the car ramp.

She hasn't had much direction for the first 6 months of life and jumps on/off every surface she can reach with no boundaries (work in progress). This will have a large detrimental impact on growing bones, muscles and joints. Incorrect or repetitive impact can damage bone growth plates. Initially, the negative results may not be apparent but it will rear its ugly head eventually. Using a car ramp reduces the amount of impacts throughout the day thus can only be a positive thing.

Thankfully she is very bright (aka a licence to run rings around us 😀!).
I started by letting her sniff and explore the ramp, lying it down and letting her carry on exploring in her own time. For some dogs this may take a while or even a couple of visits to the ramp. Using treats (or a toy) I encouraged Pud to walk over it. Once she was comfortable with this stage, I raised it slightly. Realising Pud was very confident, I took it to the next stage of raising it to the settle so she could walk up and down, further increasing the height again.
Some dogs are put off by the feel or sound of claws against the plastic. Just take it slowly and keep training sessions short and fun. Definitely do not expect to reach the same level I did in the first session.
Think about the long term gain.

Our little man has a bad back at the moment which is aggravated with stretching fully down to the floor. Thankfully my husband is handy with tools and has knocked up this temporary feeding station. It's always nice to be able to trial height before committing to an expensive permanent riser.
