This week we said goodbye to one of our wonderful patients. It’s always a little bittersweet — we grow to know you, support you, and cheer you on, so watching you leave is never easy… but it’s always for the best reason.

Seeing you well enough to move on is exactly why we do what we do. Thank you for trusting us with your care, for your kindness, and for the moments shared along the way.

🔥 Bonfire Night at Hollanden Park Hospital! 🔥

We had a fantastic evening celebrating Bonfire Night together. Everyone enjoyed delicious hot dogs, jacket potatoes, and the magical glow of sparklers and glow sticks. The bonfire kept us warm, and the fireworks were the perfect grand finale! 🎆✨

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the night so special — it was wonderful to see so many smiles and moments of joy. ❤️

🕊 Remembrance Day at Hollanden Park Hospital 🕊

Last Tuesday, our patients and staff came together to observe a two-minute silence in honour of all those we have lost.

It was a moment of reflection, unity, and gratitude as we remembered the brave individuals who sacrificed so much.

We will remember them. ❤️

🎉 Hollanden Park Hospital – October Recap! 🍂

October was a month full of creativity, community spirit, and celebration here at Hollanden Park Hospital! Our Autumn Family Day was a heart-warming event, featuring beautiful performances from the U3A Tonbridge Choir and singer Colette Beard, and a visit from Reuben the therapy dog 🐶 that brought smiles to everyone. 🎨💛

Patients enjoyed a range of creative painting projects — from butterflies and Christmas gonks to tyre painting ahead of spring flower planting — and even collaborated on a special watercolour piece for the hospital. We also celebrated birthdays in style with an impressive Black Forest cake! 🎂

For World Stroke Day, we welcomed representatives from the Stroke Association and heard inspiring stories from stroke survivors who shared their journeys of recovery. And of course, Halloween brought colourful fun with our cupcake-decorating session! 🎃🧁

Every Wednesday, we’re joined by six fantastic sixth form students from Tonbridge School , who come to work alongside our patients and staff. Each of them is preparing to study medicine at university — and they’re already showing such compassion, enthusiasm, and care.

This week, they helped our patients create beautiful decorations for our “Hello Autumn Family Day.” 🍂🎨

We’re not sure who enjoyed it more — the patients or the boys! 😊

A huge thank you to Tonbridge School for this wonderful partnership and to the students for bringing so much energy and warmth each week.

🌟 Patient Achievement Spotlight 🌟

Earlier this year, Margaret was a patient at HPH and has kindly kept in touch with us. We were delighted to hear from her recently with some remarkable news.

On 25th August, Margaret successfully climbed Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. 🏔️

In her message to us, she wrote:

“If any of the team are interested – especially as it was a lot of hard work from them to encourage and challenge me – please share this and the photo!”

This is a truly inspiring achievement and a wonderful reflection of Margaret’s determination, alongside the encouragement and support provided by our team. Congratulations, Margaret — we are so proud of you! 👏

🌸✨ Onam at Hollanden Park Hospital ✨🌸

Our hospital came alive with colours, music, and togetherness as staff and patients celebrated the joy of Onam! From a beautiful pookalam in the atrium to cultural performances, festive meals, and even a visit from “Mahabali,” the day was filled with smiles and warmth. 💐🍲💛

At Hollanden Park Hospital, we believe healing is more than medicine—it’s also about community, culture, and compassion. Wishing everyone a Happy Onam filled with health, happiness, and harmony! 🌿🌞

📍 Swanborough House Holy Pilgrimage 🙏

We’re delighted to share that Swanborough House, has recently facilitated a resident-specific pilgrimage to Our Lady of Walsingham — a deeply significant spiritual site known as “England’s Nazareth.”

The title Our Lady of Walsingham refers to a vision of the Virgin Mary experienced in 1061 by Lady Richeldis de Faverches, which led to the creation of a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. Though the original priory was sadly destroyed during the Reformation in 1538, its sacred legacy lives on — marked to this day on the lawns of the Abbey grounds.

The site was revived in the 19th century and continues to honour the Annunciation, when the Angel Gabriel told Mary, “The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women.”

✨ A Transformative Experience ✨
Our resident Gérard fully embraced the pilgrimage — taking part in every liturgy, rising early for morning prayers, and finding deep meaning in the healing Mass and visit to the Holy Well. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting fellow worshippers from our own and neighbouring parishes, as well as the delicious meals served in the Walsingham dining room.

On the morning of departure, Gérard smiled and said:

🌈 Brighton Pride Celebrations at Swanborough House! 🌈

Last weekend, Brighton lit up with colour and joy as it celebrated Gay Pride – and we brought the celebrations right into Swanborough! Residents had a fantastic time getting creative with rainbow-themed decorations, sharing plenty of laughter and fun throughout the house. 🏳️‍🌈

On a more reflective note, we also took the opportunity to explore the history behind Pride. Residents watched a video on the 1969 Stonewall Riots – the pivotal moment that sparked the global Pride movement. It led to some really insightful and open discussions about the continued fight for LGBTQ+ rights, including the fact that homosexuality is still illegal in some parts of the world.

Brighton is proudly known as the UK’s capital of Pride, and this year residents were thrilled to hear that none other than Mariah Carey was headlining the Pride Party in the Park! Of course, we couldn’t resist a mini Mariah playlist of our own!

Swanborough House in the Fast Lane!

Last week, Geoff went to Vroom — a virtual reality driving experience at Brighton Marina — and he absolutely loved it! He had an amazing time and really engaged with the whole setup.

And as for Andrew, he was back on the driving simulator for the second time after his initial assessment. This time, he was on the Donnington track driving a BMW M4 CLUBSPORT — and we even got some great data to work with!

The first time, he wasn’t able to complete a full circuit, so having this baseline now is a fantastic step forward. It’s been such a great goal for boosting self-worth and general well-being, not to mention the cognitive and executive functions involved.

So proud of both of them!
