Day 5- the final day.
Up at 5 to have breakfast and leave for 6. Set up the checkpoint ready for the first runners at 720. A few loosening off of muscles but mainly filling up water bottles. The last runner was through at 820. We then ventured into the TPC town for some second breakfast of the local mtori and look at the local market.
Back to camp to watch the first runners through at 11. Then managed to sneak in a run in the bush before cheering the amazing runners home all day.
Now at the TOC club for a celebratory bbq

Day 4- the long one
Up at 3 to strap runners before they left at 4. Able to go back to sleep for half an hour then out of the tent so they could be packed up by 530.
We then had a 2 hour journey to our checkpoint, passing the first 2 runners as we drove down the route.
On the way we saw baboons and wilder beasts but then went the wrong way and got stuck in the grass/mud.
Managed to get to the our checkpoint, after being rescued, in plenty of time for the first runners coming through at 915.
Runners were coming through until 430, many very low, 58k in on a very hot day. We lifted spirits, fed and watered them, and did a few retapes, calf and quad massages.
We were in our new camp at 5pm, settled in and got to try the new showers! Then got to treating the last lot of runners until 730pm. General leg flushes, quads, glutes, shins and calves were the main areas worked on.
All finished with a beer by the campfire.

Day 3- the day the runners climbed Kili 🏔️
Up at 4 for breakfast and on the road at 5 for the journey to checkpoint 1! Got there and were set up by 6. The first runners came in at 620 through till 8am. Mainly filling water bottles and cheering but a few small treatments to loosen off the calves as it was 10k of uphill to us.
We were back at camp for 9 and had some time to chill and take on lots of coffee before the first 2 runners came through just before 11.
It was then discovered we ran out of massage lotion, so a quick trip was made to the local supermarket to get more.
We then started our post run clinic. It was mostly calved glutes and quads from the hills again, as well as a few niggles coming out needing more focus on specific areas.

Day 2-
Up at 430 so the runners could set off for sunrise, at the checkpoint for 7, first runner through at 815. Just filling up water bottles and cheerleading.
Last runner through at 9 and we were packing up.
We then had a 40 minute drive to our next campsite at Marangu on the border to the national park. We passed lots of local villages with them selling fruit on the side of the road.
We were back at camp for 1030, for the first runner to come through at 11. We set up the therapist tent and had shifts of an hour or 2 between 12 and 6.
Main treatment areas were quads and calves from the up and down hills.
The runners are in high spirits and ready to venture up Kilimanjaro tomorrow!

Day 1-
Up at 530 for breakfast (we get the luxury of meals made by a local chef). Had a few runners to tape for previous injuries/ niggles.
Runners set off at 730 and we had our check point set up by 8 for the first runners to come through at 820. No treatments at the checkpoint today, we were only 11k into the first day so everyone was feeling fresh.
The last runners came through at 10 and we were back at camp to see the first runner finish at 1020. 35k completed in 50 minutes 🥵.
Then it was back to camp to set up the treatment clinic and we were back to back from 11-2 when we were relieved by some fellow therapists from other checkpoints.
Most treatments were general leg flushes to release any tension and help remove lactic acid. A few niggles, mainly IT band, glutes and ankles from the uneven ground.

I am pleased to announce that as of Thursday the 28th April, I will be working at Princess Royal Hospital as a physiotherapy assistant.
I am really excited for this next chapter in my therapy career, being able to learn from physiotherapists, working a new environment with new and different patients and expand my skill set.
Fear not, Move Again Massage is not going anywhere and I will still be doing my mobile massage but just in reduced hours.
I will have appointments in the evening on some weekdays and morning appointments on Saturdays.
Contact me on 07450297325 or moveagainmassage@gmail.com for more information or to book
Thank you to everyone for all your support
