⛄How to cope and support each other at Christmas - supporting a bereaved child❄

As we approach the end of November. We thought we would share with you an idea that could help a bereaved child or sibling, while you still have time to consider and think about the types of items your child finds calming and comforting during emotional times.

Creating a Christmas Comfort Box filled with items and activities could help provide a bereaved child with comfort and a place to escape, reflect and process their emotions. Every child grieves differently and contents will vary from child to child depending on their age and their relationship with the person that they have lost. All you need is an empty box similar to a shoe box in size. Your child may even wish to decorate and personalise their box so make sure you have craft supplies available to them.

The box aims to provide them with comfort, moments to look into the future with hope, promote shared conversation about memories and help process emotions at times when their emotions become strong over the festive period. We have provided you with a list of items below just to get you thinking about the types of items you can fill your Christmas Comfort Box with to help your child.

🤍 ⭐ 🎄 To help bereaved parents cope with the loss of a baby, we're providing memorial Christmas trees.

The trees have been placed in Fleetwood and Poulton cemeteries within our Baby Gardens of Remembrance and will be in place until Friday 9 January 2026. The bereavement services team have placed a star on the trees for each child and families are warmly invited to add their own decorations as a personal tribute.

Our grateful thanks goes to J P Dell Funeral Directors and J T Byrne Funeral Directors for their sponsorship.

Families are also invited to attend the 28th Annual Memorial Service, organised by Blackpool Victoria Hospital, which is being held at the Winter Gardens on Sunday 30th November at 3pm. This event is a service of reflection and music for all families who have experienced the loss of a baby, at any stage of pregnancy, no matter how long ago.
