People in Minehead can now receive MRI scans on their doorstep! 🙌

New temporary MRI and CT scanners are now available at Minehead Community Hospital, helping reduce waiting times and making it easier for people to get the scans they need!

We’ve teamed up with AGITO Medical to bring the new imaging service to Minehead until the opening of the new Bridgwater Diagnostic Centre in summer 2026! The new scanners are open five days a week and will provide around 4,000 scans to people in Minehead and nearby areas.

This temporary new service will not only enable us to reduce waiting times, but also transfer diagnostic appointments away from our large hospitals and closer to patients’ homes, improving accessibility and supporting the NHS 10 year plan shift of acute to community care.

The scanners also use battery power instead of diesel, cutting noise and saving around 100 tonnes of CO₂ – that’s the same as the electricity used by 147 UK homes in a year!

For many older men working in industry or large factories, booking an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening might not be high on the priority list.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the abdomen. But did you know that AAA is a potentially life-threatening condition that often shows no symptoms?

That’s why our AAA screening team has been visiting large employers like Numatic in Chard and Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater – to raise awareness and make it easier for men to access this vital service.

Every man in the UK is invited for ultrasound screening when they turn 65 – but if you’ve missed your letter or never got around to booking, it’s not too late.

We’re incredibly proud of the amazing work our screening team does every day – going the extra mile to protect lives across Somerset.
