Advice and guidance following localised flooding

Organisations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are working together as part of the Local Resilience Forum (LRF) today (6 January) to coordinate a response to localised flooding and keep residents safe. This is being led by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. The LRF has deemed it to be a major incident.

The council’s highways teams have been working round the clock to deal with widespread flooding across the county with many homes and businesses being affected.

With colder temperatures predicted tonight and over the next few days, we are urging residents to be prepared.

Much of the advice on dealing with cold and wet weather is common sense but we are reminding people to drive carefully on the roads and to not drive through flood water. Any road closures that are put in place are for your safety.

If you have vulnerable friends or neighbours, it’s worth nipping in to check on them if you know that your local area is at risk or prone to flooding.

For further advice, you can visit Leicestershire County Council’s website and find out about 👉
• Flooding - https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/flooding-and-drainage
• Staying warm and well - https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/winter-weather/stay-well-this-winter
• Gritting and travel - https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/winter-weather/gritting-and-travel-this-winter

We will be issuing messages on social media frequently, reiterating a variety of advice that can be shared by retweeting/reposting or adapting the content to distribute the messaging through your channels.

Useful channels to follow for the latest updates on weather and stay safe in the storms alongside the council’s own channels include:
