Following on from our overview of the thyroid gland, there are many influencing factors to help the thyroid perform better. The thyroid requires Amino Acids to make the thyroid hormone, these are got from protein, the main AA being Tyrosine, which is found in soy, chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, bananas, milk, cheese, yoghurt, lima beans, pumpkin, and sesame seeds. Other influencing nutritional sources are selenium found in fish, meat, and nuts. This is used for converting T4 to T3, if your diet is low or non-existent in these foods and may not contain enough selenium you may have poor conversion of T4 to T3.

B Vitamins are also extremely important especially B12, as is Vitamins A, C, D & E, Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc. We shall look at these in more detail in future posts.

Welcome!

A little bit about us:

In our clinic we see lots of patients with thyroid disorders, and it is the basis for many issues we deal with. We wondered what support was available locally for people suffering from issues with their thyroid and found a real lack of help. We then decided the best step to take was to reach out to thyroid charities such as Thyroid UK and work with them to create a support system for people suffering from thyroid disorders in Northern Scotland. In due course, we will be hosting coffee evenings for those interested in their thyroid health and to receive help and guidance with issues they may be having.
