✨ Teaching Assistants are often the very first to notice when a child is struggling.

With patience, creativity, and care, they bring safety and support into classrooms every single day. 💜

I’m so proud that My Emotions Activity Book is one of the resources TAs use to spark conversations about feelings and help children grow in confidence.

Back in September 2022, it was even featured in the brilliant AMYGDALA magazine by Magdalena Landziak – a publication created by and for Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), sharing strategies, resources, and real classroom wisdom. Check out SNA Zone 💛

Today, on , let’s celebrate the incredible TAs and SNAs who create safe spaces for children to thrive. 🌱

🌈 No girl should miss out. No boy should be boxed in. That’s Abi Wright's mission.

🎉 Hero of the Month is back! 🎉

After a short pause, I’m so pleased to relaunch this series by celebrating Abi Wright (she/her) founder of She Stands and co-founder of Festival of the Girl and Festival of The Boy.

Abi’s journey began in 2017, inspired by the birth of her daughter on International Women’s Day. With She Stands, she empowers females to feel at home in their bodies and never apologise for taking up space.

In 2019, she co-founded Festival of The Girl, the UK’s first festival of its kind, breaking stereotypes and opening doors for girls everywhere.

From wrestling to aviation, politics to farming, these events inspire confidence, curiosity, and kindness. 🌈

In 2025, recognising that boys also need safe spaces, Abi co-founded Festival of The Boy.

✨ Coming up soon: Festival of The Girl London on 18–19 October. Children will be able to try everything from engineering to activism, gaming to sustainability.

With SEND sessions and pay-what-you-can tickets, no child misses out.

🎗️ September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Illness can bring uncertainty, worry, and intense emotions, especially for children who may not yet have the words to express how they feel when they or a loved one are affected by cancer.

As adults, we can support children in simple but powerful ways:

💙 Create space for honest conversations – answering questions age-appropriately helps children feel informed and reassured.
💙 Encourage emotional expression – drawing, storytelling, or talking can give children safe outlets for their feelings.
💙 Maintain routines when possible – familiarity provides comfort and structure.
💙 Reassure them they are loved – reminding children they are cared for makes all the difference.

Across the UK, My Emotions Activity Book has been helping children in hospital wards by providing gentle activities that encourage self-expression.

To meet infection-control needs, many copies have even been laminated so they can be safely cleaned, giving staff something practical and calming to use with children during treatment.

💬 “I was unsure if it would be age-appropriate (child aged 10), but it worked really well. We’ve now planned that she will complete a page or two each time we meet. Her sibling enjoyed the activities too, and they served as a good conversation prompt.” – Rainbow Trust Children's Charity

Sometimes it’s not about finding the right word, it’s about creating the right space.

Children don’t always need us to fix things.

Often, what they need most is the space to name what they’re feeling, and to know it’s okay to feel that way.

That’s the power of emotional literacy: when children have the words, they can build resilience, deepen connections, and feel safer facing change.

Small conversations today can shape brighter tomorrows. 💛

🎉This March, I’m delighted to highlight the ‘My Emotions Activity Book’ Hero of the Month: Arthi Veerupillai 🎉

Arthi is the founder of Olimalar Foundation Foundation, a non-profit in Kerala, India, dedicated to helping young people thrive with confidence, resilience, and joy through mental health and life skills education.

Launched during the pandemic to support young people’s mental health, LifSkool began with short social media videos and has grown into a hands-on life skills program that has already reached over 1,260 students, parents, and educators through free workshops in schools and communities.

In 2024, Olimalar Foundation became a registered charity, expanding its mission to ensure that every young person, no matter their background, has access to the support they need.

With a background in healthcare communications, science education, and social entrepreneurship, Arthi has dedicated her career to equipping young people with the skills they need to navigate life with confidence. Her work is a powerful reminder of why emotional literacy and resilience matter.

Beyond her incredible work with Olimalar Foundation, Arthi has also been dedicating her personal time to volunteering to help more children access ‘My Emotions Activity Book’.

Watch this space— we are excited to share more soon! 🎉 Thank you for the thoughtful connection Asha Patel

As Mother’s Day is approaching this Sunday it can stir up a mix of emotions for children who have lost a loved one.

They may experience sadness and confusion as they cope with the absence of someone they care deeply about.

Here are some compassionate and supportive ways to help children navigate Mother’s Day:

✨ Create a Memory Box

Encourage children to collect photos, letters, or small keepsakes that remind them of their loved ones. This can provide a meaningful way for them to preserve memories tangibly.

✨ Express Through Writing or Art

Give children the chance to express their feelings through writing, drawing, or crafting. Art can be a comforting way for children to communicate their emotions when words may be hard to find.

✨ Maintain Family Traditions

Whether preparing a favourite meal or visiting a special place, keeping up with family traditions helps maintain a sense of connection and continuity, even in the absence of someone important.

✨ Plant in Memory

Consider planting a tree or flowers in honour of the loved one. This remembrance allows children to connect with something that grows, symbolising the ongoing nature of their love.

✨ Encourage Open Conversations

Let children share memories, talk about their loved ones, and express their feelings. Listen empathetically and reassure them that feeling whatever emotions arise is okay.

✨ Give Space and Validation

Grief is unique for every child, and their emotions may range from sadness to anger to confusion. Remind them that their feelings are entirely normal and it’s okay to grieve in their way.

✨ My Emotions Activity Book is a calming tool to help children explore their thoughts and emotions. Creative activities support emotional expression and reflection. While it’s designed for children aged 4-11, it also benefits older individuals. You can download and print the activity book here.

An engaging afternoon with LetsLocalise at the Houses of Parliament.

It was great to meet many people and organisations working towards positive change for children and young people.

It was also a pleasure to catch up with some of my fellow Rising Stars 2024 cohort. I am looking forward to continuing our support for each other.

Thank you to keynote speaker Jacqueline Oughton and all the speakers: Jeffrey Joseph, Vanessa Soames, Trevor Cook, Likhon Gulam Muhammad, Dr Vanessa Vallely OBE, Merinda Owusu, Professor Maggie Atkinson, and Michelle Bennett for your thought-provoking contributions and to the team at LetsLocalise for inviting me.

I spent a rewarding afternoon last week with ootiboo, supporting their creative learning initiatives.

I first connected with co-founder Angus Cameron on LinkedIn a year and a half ago, and since then, I’ve been incredibly proud to be part of this fantastic CIC’s board.

ootiboo uses creativity to give children real-life experiences. Their projects encourage personal development and nurture well-being. Best of all, all their projects are free for schools and families at home.

One great example of their work is the *Why Money Matters* financial learning project, designed for 6- to 9-year-olds and based on a book by Deborah Meaden.

This is just one of many initiatives that cover their core areas: real-life learning, health and well-being, and eCo-awareness, focusing on climate change and adaptation.

There are many incredible opportunities for corporations, organisations, and individuals to get involved and make an impact—please feel free to reach out!

I’m happy to have a virtual cuppa and share more. 📲

It was also wonderful to meet Amir Ali OBE in person; his passion for supporting society truly shines through.

Thank you to Jacobson Garner and the team for providing us with space to meet and collaborate.

Today, on World Cancer Day, we recognise that illness can bring uncertainty, worry, and intense emotions—especially for children who may not yet have the words to express how they feel when a parent or family member has cancer.

As adults, we can support them in the following ways:

💙Create space for honest conversations: Answering their questions age-appropriately helps them feel informed and reassured.
💙Encourage emotional expression: Giving children the opportunity to express their feelings through drawing, storytelling, or talking can help them process their emotions.
💙Maintain routines when possible: Familiarity and structure can provide security during uncertain times.
💙Reassure them they are loved: A simple reminder that they are cared for, no matter what, can make a difference.

If you’re a teacher, caregiver, or loved one supporting a child through this experience, know that your presence, patience, and understanding mean everything.

My Emotions Activity Book supports children and young people across hospital wards in the UK and beyond. Through gentle activities, it gives children the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings.
