Today is International Women’s Day.
And while it’s a day to celebrate women’s achievements, it’s also a moment to pause and look honestly at women’s health and wellbeing.
The data tells an important story.
Women are almost twice as likely to experience anxiety disorders as men (World Health Organization).
Around 1 in 5 women in the UK experience common mental health difficulties such as anxiety or depression each year (NHS Digital).
And globally, women continue to carry a disproportionate amount of unpaid care work, which is closely linked to higher stress and burnout.
When it comes to physical health, women’s pain and symptoms are still more likely to be dismissed, misdiagnosed or under-researched. For decades, women were underrepresented in medical trials, meaning treatments were often designed around male physiology.
But there has been progress. 🎉
In the last year alone we’ve seen growing recognition of:
🩷The gender health gap and the need to close it
🧡Greater awareness of menopause and hormonal health in workplaces
🩷Increased funding and discussion around women’s reproductive health research
🧡A stronger cultural conversation about burnout, boundaries and emotional labour
These shifts matter.🎉
Because change often begins the same way progress begins in therapy.
With awareness.
With conversation.
With people deciding that things can be different.
As a solution focused hypnotherapist, I see every day how capable women are of moving forward when their brains are given the right conditions to do so.
Resilience is not about pushing through exhaustion. It’s figuring out how to create lives where our minds and bodies can actually thrive.
So today isn’t only about celebrating women.
It is about imagining the future we are still building.
🧡 A future where women’s health research is equal.
🩷 Where emotional labour is recognised and shared.
🧡 Where rest, ambition, creativity and wellbeing are not competing priorities.
🩷 And where the next generation of women grow up knowing their wellbeing matters.
Small steps. 👣
Meaningful change.
Forward momentum.
Happy International Women’s Day.
