We are heading towards another special event Valentine's Day 14th February. It will be difficult for those who have lost a loved one. The words expressed by Iman following the death of her husband David Bowie touched me. I hope you like this video I made using her words.

When your loved ones are no longer here, Christmas can be one of the most difficult times in a year. Make a space at the table or raise a glass and call their names. They are gone but must not be forgotten

It is reward enough to be told that I conducted a lovely funeral service for a loved one. To receive public praise is humbling. It spurs me on to offer my services with the sincerity and care a grieving family deserve.

DAY 2 - WHAT I'VE LEARNED
The photo sums up what learned un the training, as Funeral Celebrants we arrive and meet our clients at a time when their emotions could be like a stormy sea. We have to understand them and offer our sympathy, be empathetic but allow them to work through their grief. I learned it was important to acknowledge what they needed in way of support from me and offer my assistance but not to overwhelm.

DAY 2 - WHY I CHOSE FPC

After making my decision to train to become a Funeral Celebrant, the next step was to find out who or which organisation would be the right one to train me. There were several websites that offered training but I felt that it was important to see who had taken the training and what they were doing post training. I was drawn to FPC as it offered two opportunities to train as a Celebrant to conduct weddings and or funerals. I was only interested in funerals because of personal experience and wanting the life of the deceased to be central in the service, to be remembered and celebrated.
The way I felt about funerals was expressed on the FPC website through the celebrants who were members. They were the kind of people I would want to do my funeral! With the support of family and friends I was ready to go for the training. Time to look for dates!

DAY 1 - WHEN I TOOK THE LEAP

I didn't realise that there was such a role as a Funeral Celebrant until last year! In the midst of the Covid pandemic, unsure whether I would return to work or what my working life would be as the pandemic literally brought my work to a halt, I had to look at alternative careers. It was a chance FB post by a colleague who was advised to retrain as a Funeral Celebrant. What kind of job is that? I wondered. When I looked at the several websites about Funeral Celebrants, I knew it was for me. I had many years before wanted to work in the funeral business and I saw this a second chance. I discussed my decision with family and friends - they all said "go for it - you would be perfect - everything in its time". So I decided to retrain.
