Hey Cub will also be offering further hypnobirthing group workshops starting in April and May, so keep an eye out for these dates being released or v.soon! And for those of you who prefer a 1:1 workshop with extra undivided attention, these can be tailored just for you whenever/wherever. Just give us a shout and we’ll organise something soon.

We’ve been taking a well earned break from the socials this festive season & enjoying just being with family & friends to celebrate coming out of 2021 and diving straight into ‘22. It’s been bloody lovely and we hope you’ve all had a guddun too!

So, 2022! Wtf did that come from? And what does it mean for Hey Cub in the hypnobirthing world?

WORKSHOPS! Yes, flippin finally, we’ll be offering some 1:1 and group workshops. Can’t tell you how chuffed I am to start meeting all you incredible parents and promoting better births for everyone. Something which is needed now more than ever in society, as recent topics have been riling me right up the wrong tree recently (for perfectly good reasons!) but that’s a different subject for a different post! 🤪

But when, where and what you on about, you ask!
In the next few days, I’ll be releasing some group workshop dates starting in March 2022. So keep your eyes peeled for some exciting stuff coming soon. I’ll update you with all the info you need to know however, if you have any Q’s that just can’t wait, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via an IG DM or sending an email to: hello@heycub.com

And that’s it for now. We look forward to being more present and with it this ‘22, so keep checking back for updates, workshop info and just general birth nerdy content.

🦊 Merry 1st Dec Everyone! 🦊

Here we are again. My brain can't quite comprehend how we're nearing Christmas 2021 already. My cub's 2nd Xmas with 24 days to go. Are we prepared? Not in the slightest 😂

But there is something quite magical about this time of year and I do love the Christmas spirit, even if that energy isn't personally contributed towards the magic that's happening all around us (And that's ok!). There are always lovely reminders of just how wonderful this time of year is and they just warms my heart. But roll on summer already, yeh!

This is merely just a post wishing everyone a happy December and to embrace the holiday season as much as possible. Cause before you know it, it's over in a blink of an eye.

And to anyone making room for a new addition to their families in the new year, here's to exciting times ahead. Try not to stress during this time of year or feel pressured as we all know how overwhelming it can get. Be kind to yourself, be kind to others, and try not to surround yourself with negative energy. You deserve to feel calm, in control, at ease and positive.

So enjoy the festivities, be merry, support one another, and spread the joy!

🧡 All the love from Hey Cub 🧡

🦊 Find your Cub Club! 🦊

Asking for help & support during your pregnancy & postnatal period is one of the most important investments you can make for yourself mentally/physically & for your newborn cub!

But asking is not always easy! I get it!

As I imagine we are all just starting to slowly get our lives back to whatever the 'new normal' is, after coming out of a pandemic. Now more than ever do I feel so strongly about people coming together & helping one another. Even just to get through life cause f**kin'el - IT. IS.EXHAUSTING!

This post was something I'd be wanting to write for awhile and kept putting on & off for two reasons. 1. I didn't know how & 2. I felt triggered by my own experiences.

As a first time mum, having her first child at the height of covid-19, when noone knew
wtf was going on & finishing the third trimester alone, having stripped away of social interaction, help & support from friends or family, it's only just recently I'm learning to ask & accept this much needed resource. It is difficult! Their's always apart of me that feels stubborn about it, guilty, vulnerable and just down right defeated. But that's ok & actually, receiving the help we've needed for so long is a HUGE relief. I only wish we had been 'allowed' right from the start.

But my advice to any pregnant people/parents is to start finding your club! Whether that's from fellow parents, new/experienced parents, or friends & family. People want to help and probably cant wait to squish your newborn. Don't hesitate to reach out, cause s**t me is parenting a tough gig & noone should be left to do it alone.

🧡 As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a baby....so use your tribe! 🧡

🦊 Pregnancy / Birth Partners 🦊

Whether this is your partner in crime, a family member, best friend or just someone extremely supportive in your life, birth partners have an incredible amount of key roles to play throughout your birth journeys. Having 2 people involved & working as a team can make the whole experience waaaay more positive & enjoyable, every step of the way. So here’s a few helpful tips on what they can do!

🧡 Practice relaxing techniques together. Listening to soothing music, using meditation apps, reading scripts & stories to one another. Anything that makes you feel calm & at ease. It’s not only the birthing person who needs to feel calm when the big day finally arrives!

🧡 Be the protector of negative things. Make sure your partner is delving into positive birth stories, watching positive birth videos, using the right language around birth to help inspire, empower & understand all the amazing things birth related

🧡 Nest together! You’ll love it! During that nesting stage you feel the need to get so much done. It’s such an amazing stage of pregnancy, preparing for your lil’cubs arrival! Get on it! Be creative whilst you have the time!

🧡 Create anchors together! Anchors are incredibly useful & really help to relax and calm the mind. This could be having your favourite scent on a pillow, having a picture to hand which reminds you of amazing times & adventures. You get the gist.

🧡 Write your birth plan(s) together. You’re most probably going to be there during labour & birth, so you’ll want to be as hands on as possible

🧡 Pack your partner's hospital bag. Whether you are planning a home birth, hospital birth, MLU birth etc, you’ll want to be prepared for any scenario. Knowing where every single item is in an instance when your partner is in the zone, doing their thing will cause less stress to the situation

🧡 Just be there. Emotionally, physically & mentally, just be there. Communicate your feelings, both you and your partner and just make sure you’re on the same page every step of the way.

🦊 These are just a small handful of things you can & what a difference it will make if you get on board right from the start.

🦊 Due dates! 🦊

It's good to prepare during pregnancy but less practical to feel the pressure.

Here’s some fun facts about them estimated ‘Due Dates’.

🦊 Under 5% of babies are actually born on their due dates.
🦊 Estimated based on old, dated methods and theories such as a typical menstrual cycle. This is assuming a cycle lasts 28 days.
🦊 It’s just an estimation
🦊 According to Aristotle, pregnancy lasts around 10 moon cycles. His theory suggests 10 moon cycles x 28 days of our menstrual cycles = 40 weeks of pregnancy. SCREW THAT! He’s ancient and this theory is so outdated!
🦊 1 in 4 pregnant people are still pregnant at 41 weeks
🦊 ‘Due Dates’ differ worldwide. Uk - 40 weeks, France - 41 weeks and Kenya - 43 weeks
🦊 WHO (the world health organisation) doesn't specify a due date week but explains a pregnancy can last 37-42 weeks.
🦊 A 1990’s study found, first time pregnant people are likely to go 8 days beyond their estimated ‘due dates’

🧡 Towards the end of our pregnancy, we know how tiring it can get. We possibly start to feel everything at this point, bigger, way more tired, fed up, and eager to meet our lil’cubs. But our bodies and our babies work together in knowing when it is right to birth. So DO NOT STRESS! This is literally the last thing you should be doing! if you're beyond 40 weeks of your estimated ‘due date’ and you and your lil'cubs are happy, healthy, and doing great, take this time to sit back, relax and enjoy the peace. Give family/friends a 'due month' and wait for your body/baby to show you signs for when they’re ready to be born.

🦊 I think we can all agree ‘hypnobirthing’ probably isn’t the clearest of titles for this particular practice, nor does it fully capture what it’s all about. Honestly, it’s a pretty s**t title in my opinion, but an extremely important & invaluable part of the practice that shouldn’t be underestimated!

🧡 So, what is it all about, and is someone going to put me to sleep and turn me into a chicken for entertainment purposes? Erm, no!

🦊 Learning all about the hypnosis side of things in hypnobirthing is an incredibly useful tool during pregnancy/birth & grasping a full understanding of what it can do for you, is hugely beneficial. All hypnosis is ‘self-hypnosis’, meaning only you can bring yourself into a deep state of relaxation. It’s purely all down to choice, zero mind control, nada voodoo, or magical powers. But how cool would that be, ey?

🧡 Hypnosis is simply a natural state of consciousness, which you may not realise you often do on a daily basis without realising. For example, the moment just before you fall asleep, you may feel extremely relaxed, at ease and ready to slip into a calm, deep sleep. Or the times when you’re really engrossed in a film or Netflix series. Or when your partner’s talking to you & let’s face it, you’re a little bored of the conversation, so you might just happen to zone out a little bit and go to a simpler place where you’re probably lying on a beach, surrounded by sand, sea, & sangria! Ooh yeeh!

🦊 But what has all this got to do with hypnobirthing & preparing for the birth of our babies? It’s been scientifically proven that if we are in a much more relaxed state of mind in a calm, stress-free environment, we are most likely to birth our babies more effectively and positively. Practicing techniques such as self-hypnosis, whether that’s listening to so calming mp3's, music, meditating, or doing some breathing techniques, hypnosis for any pregnant person is an invaluable tool that will help you zone out of stressful situations, disconnect from distractions, & get you focussing on your body to help birth your baby under better conditions.

🧡 And that’s it! Hypnosis is a pretty solid technique. Would recommend, pregnant or not!

Birth prep & Inductions.

This was the last picture of just me and the first picture with us. After 25 hours from when my waters broke naturally and having done everything to get that beautiful oxytocin flowing, we decided to head to the hospital to see what was going on after my contractions had slowed down for 3 hours. Once we’d arrived at the hospital, I’d consented to a VE. We learned my cervix was already 10cm dilated and from there my head, my heart and my body were ready to finally give birth to meet our lil’cub. So, I’d agreed to have an induction.

Hypnobirthing for me was a gateway to having a great understanding of the anatomy during pregnancy/birth and really getting to grips with the different stages our bodies go through throughout the whole process. Without this, I feel labour could have been really stressful for a number of reasons. Questioning everything, clock watching and generally wondering how the cub was doing, rather than focusing on relaxing the mind, being in tune with my body and missing out on trying to enjoy the experience.

Inductions believe it or not, can be positive. Yup, you heard! They don’t have to be scary, mis-leading, invasive, intrusive or negative experiences, especially if we know what to expect and we know what is right for us. We can never predict where our births may lead us, so preparing for every scenario is key and investing your time and energy into becoming as clued up, confident with our choices and knowing when/how to speak up with what we need, we are most likely to get the positive birth outcome we deserve. Understanding Inductions, learning about our bodies, how our minds work and promoting those positive reinforcements can be a revelation in our birth prep.

And this is 100% what ‘Hey Cub’ Hypnobirthing workshops will have to offer for you. A full birth preparation for parents to be, who want to aim towards a positive, empowering and life changing birth. We are here to support you.
