Protecting ourselves against the world might look like having thick skin or some kind of imaginary shield.

What if that barrier prevents you from letting go of what you don't need, and what if it's stopping the good stuff in?

What if instead we're soft? Flexible? Adaptable? What could that look like instead?

When you imagine or embody that new thing, what changes? Do you notice anything different in your body?

Helping people to help themselves is my bag. No pain presentation is too complex, so far anyway! I believe there's always something to offer you, to help you move more with ease.

So, why visit me?

What I won't do

🌻 I won't sign you up to weeks of appointments. You decide if you want to return if you feel I'm helping you

🌻 I won't offer a basic relaxing massage. My job is to offer targeted treatment where necessary (with your permission) to loosen a very tight, restricted area or use cranio-sacral therapy to change something else

🌻 I won't give you a sheet of exercises based on where you are sore

✨️ I offer you a positive, supportive, clinical setting. It can be a lot of fun, too!

You bring me your story, and I offer you my 20 years of experience with honesty and candour. Together, we explore options and find what works.

*the majority of my customers feel better when they leave the clinic. Depending on the nature of the issue, some can feel a bit tender, but I always warn around that and gain consent before proceeding. It's never my aim, nor do I think it's useful, to hurt anyone with treatment.

Finding a more stacked position generally allows for more freedom of movement in all directions, and can help to 'unlock' tensions we hold. Sometimes, we need to check in to find out where we actually are first. To do that we need to explore where we can go in our movements; to find out our full range of motion that's available.

One way to do this is to learn about the breastbone to sacrum connection and how moving them up and down works through the whole kintenic chain, from the feet and through the spine.

Can you find your middle? Your centre? How does it feel to be there? Is it different to where you were before? If so, how?

Here we go again..another course, another tool in my toolbox. Eek!

There are many reasons why I've decided to take the leap into becoming a coach, which I will share soon.

The company I have decided to learn with is Barefoot Coaching. Reasons why:

1. They have a professional website with helpful videos explaining in a way written words struggle to
2. They're not salesy at all
3. They're not 'corporate', I like their softer use of language, yet to the point
4. They are academic and reputable. They are affiliated with the University of Chester with the option to go onto complete a PostGrad Certificate (Master's Level), so its proper :)
5. I like the name!
6. They are ICF approved, meaning the course adheres to the gold standards set regarding competence and integrity.

I've attended the first of many online sessions, meeting the other students that I'm going to learn so much from, and with.

We're all from completely different backgrounds, but have the same interests: we want to help other people, learn more about ourselves, and have more human connection.

I've started swotting already, and it's lovely to know that my journey had already begun some time ago when I delved into JEMS ARC (Joanne Elphinston's Movement Systems: Analysis, Rehabilitation & Coaching)

Additionally, I recently attended the Coaching Unpeeled course run by Joanne and Jo Turner, specifically designed for clinical practitioners like myself.

Its incredible what you can draw from people when you ask them the right 'coaching' question, and then you give them time to think and answer. I find it fascinating. It's inspiring to watch someone unfold to find their innate creative part of themselves, which we all own, but sometimes can't show due to all the other baggage of life we hold.

I love helping people in pain by teaching them how they can help themselves with my movement mentoring and coaching skills. I'm excited about developing the latter further with Barefoot to broaden my scope of practice.

That's me just parted with £570 for the 19th time to maintain my title 'Osteopath'.

It is a legal requirement to be registered with the General Osteopathic Council to call yourself an Osteopath, and there's a lot of work that has to go into maintaining this title in the form of CPD (continued professional development).

Over a 3 year period we need to complete 90 hours, 45 of which need to be learning with others; it can be a fairly isolated profession for many of us. We need to show our yearly hours when registering every year. In this past 3 year cycle, I completed at least 142 hours of CPD.

Standards of CPD must include:

A – Communication and patient partnership

B –Knowledge Skills & Performance

C - Safety & Quality in Practice

D – Professionalism

Additionally, we also need to do one objective activity over the 3 year period, which may include patient feedback, case discussion, a clinical audit or peer observation. At the end of the 3 year period our CPD undergoes a Peer Review by a colleague. I did 4 peer reviews for other osteos this year.

Osteopaths have a rich knowledge of anatomy and physiology, a deep understanding of the workings of the body and are heavily regulated by the GOsC
