Dancing has always been in my life.🩰💃👯
My mum signed me up for ballet classes when I was 3. I loved the dresses, the shoes, the music, how my body felt when I moved it, but not having my hair scraped up into a tight bun.
My ballet teacher of 10 years told me I would never be a ballerina. My arms and legs were too short! Also, I couldn't do spinning, the spotting.. . Just couldn't get it!
I just about passed the exams, I was so frightened each time, I would forget the steps, blush bright red and want to crawl away. But, I kept at it, I did pass them, somehow and when we moved away I found a new ballet teacher who loved my passion and then I wanted to be like her, a dance teacher. I started tap, jazz and modern dance classes too, then wanted to be a choreographer. I would get friends together and teach them moves... 😏 Sorry friends..
I had my first pair of pointe shoes 🩰 and didn't mind the pain, I felt glorious! My teacher embraced my passion and put me on stage. In spite of the nerves, I loved it!
Then we moved again and I returned to that first ballet teacher, she said I don't know why you have come back and my heart broke.
Not surprisingly I lost interest, my self worth at an all time low, I turned to other activities to boost my sense of self. Boys, ci******es, hanging out with friends.
Dancing became drunken disco in tight dresses and high heels and then moved on to drugs and raving. Then babies, (saved my life), work, study, professional MH Nurse.
Then I broke. My body said no more! I was burnt out, I developed ME/CFS... Thankfully 6 years later, I'm coming out the other side of that.
Now, I have come full circle, I'm dancing again. Once again, enjoying BEing in my body, feeling sensual, feeling it all. I'm still not the most graceful, I still forget my steps, but I'm doing it! And I am celebrating my journey with dance, every day!
I am trained as a NIA White Belt Instructor and I can't wait to share it with you.
You don't have to be 'good' at dancing, you don't have to be super fit (after 6 yrs with little to no exercise, I'm not!!) if you can move your body, you can follow the steps.
If you want to move your body, to simply enjoy movement, to experience NIA, I am offering taster sessions on weds 3rd 9.30 to 10.30 am and sat 6th 11-11.30am at Fitmfun, Wellbeing studio in Littlehampton.
Message me for more info.
I hope to see you there!
