People often joke about coming down with “ Monday blues” but for many tuesday is the real worst day of the week.

As Gholipour noted in a story for New York Magazine, “Why Does Time Seem to Slow Down on Tuesdays?”, Tuesday is the day when “last weekend feels like it was ages ago,” while next weekend still feels “ages away.” As a result, time can feel like it’s passing more slowly on Tuesdays compared to other days of the week.

We thought we would give you a bit of Tuesday motivation

Your periods stop when you reach your menopause because your ovaries stop producing oestrogen and progesterone. But, levels of these hormones fluctuate and gradually decrease for many years before your actual menopause.  This time is called the perimenopause… You may still be having periods, but symptoms can be as debilitating as after the menopause. There is good evidence to show that starting treatment sooner rather than later is better for not only symptom control but also for longer-term health..  reducing the risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and possibly dementia… so really it’s a win-win situation!

Have you ever noticed how hangovers get worse as you age?? Can’t keep up with the youngsters anymore?!?

Many women enjoy a glass or three of wine to unwind at the end of the day, but alcohol can contribute to menopausal symptoms. As we get older, it is harder to process alcohol and eliminate it from our system because older bodies hold less water, so there is less to dilute the alcohol.

Red wine, in particular, may make flushes and sweats worse, and in the longer term, a glass a day can increase breast cancer risk and is a known depressant so can lower mood.

We’re not saying cut it out completely.. like all things menopause your alcohol intake is a balance of risks versus benefits.

Try these top tips to minimise the effects of alcohol..

Keep it to 14 units per week.. there are 1.5 units in a small (pub size!!) 2.3 in a medium glass of wine or half a pint of lager.

Drink plenty of water… Keeping hydrated has many health benefits as well as minimising the after effects of alcohol

Aim for alcohol free days during the week or when you don’t have anything planned.. treat yourself to something else instead!

Look for low alcohol free or low alcohol alternatives and maybe even volunteer to be the driver?!
