You deserve to reveal your full self with a deep knowing that it's ok.

You deserve to trust your judgement and no longer listen to the millions of 'shoulds'.

You deserve to feel connected to yourself, others and the world around you.

You deserve to enjoy taking care of yourself and revel in your life, feeling grateful for what you have and not what you do not.

It is waiting for you when you choose the imperfect path. You do not need to prove you matter. You already do.

I adore words. They can make you feel understood in a moment. They can give you hope and excitement.

They can help you live free.

Embrace the imperfect, and life gets a whole lot bigger and more beautiful.

Perfectionism shows up in many ways..

An unhealthy preoccupation with food.
A need to control or change your body.
A constant striving to please others.
Self judgement and self attacking.
Overworking.
Spinning too many plates.
Continual comparison.

Your mind becomes a whole lot more peaceful when you stop chasing perfect and start connecting to your true self.

Being a perfectionist is exhausting.

A never ending battle to measure up against impossible expectations.

Food rules. Poor body image. Never switching off. Taking on too much. People pleasing.

Chasing perfection is also the very thing that prevents you from the success you want. Ironic, really.

Know that you can change the goal posts whenever you wish.

You can be a joy seeker. You can feel calm and focused. You can be free of pressure and rigid rules.

Even a 100km London ➡️ Brighton run wasn't enough!

I'd finally crossed the finish line at Brighton racecourse and felt the bubbles going up my nose from the glass of prosseco I'd been handed.

Covering that distance over two days camping in between with little sleep was an epic feat. My moving time was 12.5 hours. My overall time, 15 hours.

And yet... my mind drifted to what could have gone better.

If I hadn't taken a fall at 40km.
If I had taken on more food.
If I had pushed harder in the last 10km when there wasn't another soul around me.

If. If. If.

I was expecting perfect, and it was KILLING my joy.

The ability to sit with wonderful feelings of achievement and pride.

To reflect on the hard work I'd put into training.

Perfect was an illusion, and I refused to keep subscribing to it.

Embracing imperfect wasn't easy to begin with. But when I felt the endless benefits, I was convinced.

This is how I would be living from now on.

Being imperfect has had such a positive ripple effect in my life. I take more chances. I have more confidence. I don't fear failing. I am more resilient.

Above all, I feel MUCH more joy.

Change your perspective, change your life.

I am ambitious and driven. I spent a lot of time directing that energy towards getting a flatter stomach. As a woman, it is what we are encouraged to strive for.

As a typical apple shape, it took a lot of effort and headspace.

And a fear of gaining fat. I had to control my food to control my body, and I got stuck in some exhausting patterns.

Restricting and binging
All or nothing behaviours
Being horrid to myself
Starting over again and again

When I started applying that same drive and determination to changing my approach, I finally found the consistency and peace I wanted.

Good health was now the goal - physical, mental and emotional. Not a flat stomach.

Self compassion is a key component of positive change. But it is often confused with self-pity and, therefore, resisted.

Self compassion focuses on being honest about your actions, observing without judgement, and considering what you could do differently next time.

Self-compassion recognises that pain is a part of being human, connecting you to others. It allows you to take a balanced, objective view of tough situations. To find ways to cope and improve things.

It feels nurturing, calming, and hopeful.

Self-pity feels isolating, making you believe you are the only one suffering. It magnifies problems, causing rumination and dwelling, which keeps you stuck.

It often feels bitter, resentful, and helpless.

Is it time to welcome in more self compassion?
