🌟 Keeping the child at the centre, empowering school staff 🌟
At Handelsman Psychology, we believe the child’s best interests, and their voice, should always come first. Every assessment, discussion, and recommendation is built around what will genuinely support them to thrive.

This lovely feedback from a SENCo at the end of last academic year shows what that looks like in practice:
✅ Collaborative conversations
✅ Solution-focused planning
✅ Strategies that are achievable and meaningful
✅ Everyone leaves more confident and equipped to help the child

Thank you for the kind words!

👋 Hi, I’m Anita - Office Manager here at Handelsman Psychology

With extensive experience as a Virtual Assistant specialising in organisational support, I work closely with Gemma and the team to make sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly, from managing emails and systems to keeping our admin organised and efficient.

My role is all about creating the space for Handelsman Psychology professionals to focus on what matters most: making learning easier and education more enjoyable for children and young people.

As a mum of two, I understand first-hand how important this work is, and it’s a privilege to play a part in ensuring families and schools receive the support they need 💛

With 10 years of account management experience, I bring a detail-driven, people-focused approach to everything I do.

Looking forward to connecting with you! ✨

👋 Hi, I’m Dr Gemma Handelsman.

I’m an Educational Psychologist and the founder of Handelsman Psychology, based in North West London.

With over 12 years of experience, I support children and young people (ages 3–18) to thrive in their learning, well-being, and development.

I work closely with families and schools, and I’m a specialist in supporting neurodivergent children.

I’m also a mum of three, so I understand the reality of parenting too 💛

✨ Here I’ll be sharing insights, resources, and examples of work at Handelsman Psychology. As well as introducing you to our growing team.

👉 Follow along if you’d like practical tips, encouragement and guidance on understanding and helping the children and young people in your life.

Hearing directly from young people about how an EP Assessment has helped them is always powerful.

In this case, the assessment gave all adults who know and work with this young woman a clearer understanding of her unique strengths and support needs. Things that were difficult to explain before now make more sense.

That’s the heart of our work at Handelsman Psychology:
🌟 Give children a voice
🌟 Help parents and teachers understand their perspective
🌟 Build bridges so everyone can work together in the child’s best interests

Every step forward starts with understanding.

Every child deserves to feel seen, understood, and supported

🌟That’s why our work is guided by a set of clear values, from centring the child’s voice, to working in partnership with families and schools, to celebrating neurodiversity.

🌟These aren’t just words on a page. They shape every conversation, every assessment, and every plan we create together.

One of my favourite ways to work as an Educational Psychologist is to observe a child in school and then meet with the adults who know them best. Parents and teachers are the experts in the child - I bring expertise in child development and psychology. We explore together the child’s strengths and their support needs. We co-create strategies that will work within the context of that child’s classroom, school or home. That for me is EP Consultation.

Supporting neurodivergent young people to be able to share their views about themselves, their learning and their support needs is undoubtedly one of my favourite parts of being an EP. Asking open questions, using resources that match their communication style and focusing on their strengths and what's working well makes all the difference!

It's great to hear that my EP report has accurately captured this child's strengths and support needs and reflects the views of parents and school staff. This work will support the boy's transition to secondary school, ensuring his new teachers can understand and support him in a new environment.
