Freaky Friday Food Myth #2: Evil Eggs 🥚💀

MYTH: “Eggs raise your cholesterol — don’t eat too many!”
For most people, the cholesterol in eggs has little effect on blood cholesterol.
Eggs are a great source of protein, vitamin D, and healthy fats that fit easily into a balanced diet.

FACT: Eggs aren’t evil. Most people can enjoy up to 6–7 per week as part of a healthy, balanced diet. These two would go great boiled with some wholegrain toast.

Every Friday in November we’re going to talk about a freakishly wrong food myth.

MYTH: “Carbs are the enemy!”

Carbohydrates aren’t villains — they’re your body’s main source of energy.
Wholegrains, oats, pasta, and potatoes (with skin!) provide fibre that helps digestion and keeps you feeling fuller for longer.

FACT: Not all carbs are created equally. Choose high-fibre or wholegrain versions, watch portions, and pair with a source of protein and some veg or fruit to get that healthy balance.

Halloween & Food Waste

🎃 Use the pumpkin, not just the lantern.
Easy ideas:
* Roast the seeds with a little oil and salt for a crunchy snack
* Cube and roast the flesh for traybakes or salads
* Blend into soup or pasta sauce.

Reducing food waste saves money and helps the planet.

Air fryer sausage rolls.

Make your own sausage roll in 20 minutes.
Try this tasty healthy version of a sausage roll using wraps rather than pastry, and low-fat mince rather than high fat processed meat.

❤ October is National Cholesterol Month — a reminder that small changes make a big difference for heart health.

Three steps that can help:
# Boost your fibre intake by including beans, lentils, oats, and fruit in your diet
# Swap butter for unsaturated fats like olive or rapeseed oil
# Keep moving — walking, cycling, or dancing in the living room all support healthy cholesterol.

🍲Autumn Batch Cooking
Cook once, eat twice! Autumn is the perfect season for simple, warming batch meals that save time and money.

Here’s a base from which you can make more than one meal:
2 tins of chopped tomatoes
2–3 cups frozen mixed veg
1–2 tins of beans or lentils
🌿 A pinch of herbs or spices you enjoy

Tonight: enjoy as soup or mixed bean chilli.
Tomorrow: blend into a pasta sauce.

Batch cooking makes it easier to eat well on busy days. Saving time, effort, and money!

Good mental health is supported by small, everyday steps.

These three can make a difference:
✔ A 10-minute walk outdoors during daylight hours
✔ Eating regular, balanced meals to keep you feeling energised throughout the day
✔ Creating a simple wind-down before bed to set yourself up for a good night — like reading, stretching, or saying goodnight to the screens.

💜 October is Menopause awareness month — a time to reflect on easy habits that can support wellbeing during this stage of life.

Three evidence-based steps that may help:
1. Include protein at each meal – eggs, yogurt, beans, or lean meats help maintain muscle and steady energy.
2. Add strength activities twice a week – body weight, resistance bands, or carrying shopping all count for bone and muscle health.
3. Check your vitamin D levels – low vitamin D is common in menopause and can affect bones and energy. Supplement if advised.
