Wallace made his therapy debut about a year ago! 🐶 He still loves been involved in our therapy sessions and even joins in with online groups, as does Thomas……although he’s a bit big to sit on my lap!!

Here is one seriously happy speech therapist!!!! And I’ll tell you why……. This morning I saw a client for a 6 month review! And I am beyond impressed!!!!! A few years ago he was involved in an accident that caused a severe head injury. He was unable to eat, to talk, to walk! We saw him for weekly therapy over a long period and have steadily reduced our input! He walked into my clinic today better than ever!!! So proud of him, and the people around him who help make his continued progress happen!

We are so excited to be involved in this amazing new programme and can’t wait to get started!

A couple of weeks ago a few of us headed out to play some adventure golf. It was nice to see people in a more social environment and out of their exercise gear! Competition was strong and lots of laughs were had!

Sometimes it’s good to step back and look at what is being achieved. Over the past 5 years we have grown from one class of 3 people, to running 8 classes a week and providing exercise, support and friendship to over 60 people living with Parkinson’s. And we are soon about to start delivery of our new speech therapy group – ‘Bigger, Better & Louder’. This couldn’t have been done without our amazing instructors, our dedicated members and the support of Parkinson's UK– so thank you all!

“Can we pop round for afternoon tea and cake?” requested our wonderful Shrewsbury Parkinson’s Group. ☕️🍰☕️

Immediately, without any hesitation, Speech Advance replied, “Of course you can!!!!” 🤗

So they all visited Natalies home, met her dogs, drank tea and ate Jackie’s wonderful and very tasty, home made flap jacks. They laughed, they smiled, they chatted (using their fabulous voices) and they all had a wonderful time! 🥰

We always like doing something different in our working week! This week we supported a client who was been filmed for Help for Heroes. He spoke incredibly well in his filmed interview. We were very proud! We were even interviewed ourselves! Watch this space!! 😊

We wrote a poem about the Parkinson’s UK Speech Groups that we run! Two of our group members did an amazing job of reading it out! Great voices!!! The groups are clearly working 👏🏻👌🏻👏🏻

A week spent in a Recording Studio 🎶🎵🎶

What an incredible incredible experience!!! When we first met our client following a head injury, he had some communication difficulties and really wanted to work on his writing! “What shall we write down to practise?” I said. “Well I do have some lyrics in my head I could write down” he responded. These lyrics were so articulate and clever. I was so impressed with them. Not one to shy away from thinking outside the box, I set myself the aim to help his talented young man write music! And what a journey it has been!!…..From struggling to write the lyrics on paper to having written two songs AND recording them is an amazing achievement! I feel so so privileged to have been part of this journey and watching our client making improvements in many areas of his speech and seeing him flourish in every aspect is truly awe inspiring! Doing this has not only worked on his speech and language and communication skills but we have seen him grow in confidence and self belief and for me that’s just as important!

A huge thank you goes to Matt Bishop at https://www.inspire-music.co.uk/ who has been incredible to support us with this journey and I thank him for his expertise, his support, his humour, his kindness and his patience.

Would highly recommend Matt to anyone wanting to record music or to enjoy music with him!

I think I enjoyed this whole process just as much, if not more, than my client who I am unbelievably proud of!!

Achieving life work goals, presenting at a Case Management Conference on how to deliver a gold standard service!

To be invited to speak was a real honour. We feel incredibly proud to have worked with a client who has made a remarkable recovery following a head injury sustained in a motor cycle accident! The team have delivered true interdisciplinary rehabilitation and subsequently delivered a gold standard rehab service. To work with this amazing team and incredible case management firm is a real honour. It really was a rather emotional day looking at our clients journey, how far he’s come and how well the therapy and rehabilitation was delivered. The whole team, his family and carers, support workers, case managers, solicitors, therapists and of course the client have formed an amazing team achieving things we never thought possible! 👏🏻👏🏻

We were so honoured to be invited to speak at Parkinson’s in the Marches conference. It’s such an amazing project that provides information and funds to support local people on their Parkinson’s journey. We spoke about speech therapy input, therapy types and recommended people to see a clinician early! We even practised some KEEP LOUD exercises with the whole room 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Huge congratulations to the organisers! What a successful day it was!!! 👌🏻
