This is just awful and so sad to read. This young woman should have been treated differently, and taken seriously.

Breast cancer or any cancer has no age restrictions or discrimination.

My youngest post surgery breast cancer lady was just 20 year's young. The oldest lady was 98 yrs.

This really is heartbreaking 💔

Please, always get a second opinion if your concerned.

'Our daughter died at 17 because she was treated like a child.'

The parents of a girl who died aged 17 are campaigning to change the law following their daughter's death. Isla Sneddon consulted doctors at 15 after discovering a lump in her breast and was reassured by medics that it was probably harmless, resulting from hormonal fluctuations.

At 17, she was advised to have a biopsy - but the referral was downgraded because of her age. When Isla was eventually diagnosed with breast cancer, her family were informed she had just six months to a year remaining.

Her parents, Mark and Michelle, did all they could to care for their daughter throughout her illness, before she died in March last year. Mark and Michelle are convinced that had Isla's symptoms been handled as they would have been in an adult, Isla's cancer could have been curable and their daughter would be alive today.

Mark said: "We trusted what we were told. We believe that if Isla had been an adult presenting with the same symptoms, there would be a lot more done. There would have been a longer investigation - she wouldn't have been told it was something she'd grow out of. We'll never know, but we believe that if that had been caught then, it maybe wouldn't have got to where it was. I don't want another father or mother to feel like we do. We're empty, we're lost - I would never wish this on another family. If this gets passed, it can save another child from going through what Isla went through. Isla was the best daughter you could ask for."

"She was bright and bubbly. She had a really good sense of humour, and she was beautiful. Me and her mum adored her - we just wanted her to have the best life she could have."
