Tackling stigma starts with knowledge and understanding 🧠💙

Our colleagues at Hep C U Later have created a CPD-accredited training module on hepatitis C and stigma, which was co-produced with people who have lived experience of hepatitis C.

Within this 30-minute training module, people tell their stories of stigma, the impact it has had and importantly, they tell professionals what they need to do to tackle stigma.

This we're discussing an important topic: Stigma

Stigma can be harmful, and everyone can play a part in stigma without even realising it, the important thing is finding ways to overcome it.

Q: How can we challenge stigma around substance use?

A:
📖 Increasing education and awareness and encouraging open conversations.
🗨️ Think before you speak and choose your words considerately.
💡 Awareness of our own behaviours, and others.
🪞 Reflecting on your own biases, either conscious or unconscious, as a team, in supervision or individually.

Two of the Young Person’s Drug and Alcohol specialists at T3 STaRS, Helen and Lily, attended an ‘Empowering Families’ event at a secondary school in East Staffordshire in October. 🏫

The 'Empowering Families' event was a wonderful opportunity for East Staffordshire agencies to come together to offer support and signposting for children, families and all other professionals in attendance.

📢 Did you know that the 25th November is ?

White Ribbon Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls (VAWG). We unite to challenge harmful attitudes and work towards a future free from abuse.

This year, the focus is: We Speak Up. Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss the chance to create positive change.

Danielle, who works as a Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Specialist co-located within the Intensive Prevention Service (IPS) team, recently arranged training from Re-Solv, the national gas and solvent use charity.

📖 The session aimed to help staff recognise the signs of substance use support needs, feel confident in asking the right questions, and understand the associated risks.

🫱🏾‍🫲🏻 This joint initiative reflects the strong partnership between services and our shared commitment to early intervention. It also contributes to our joint goal in raising awareness and improving outcomes for young people on the edge of care, and those going through reunification.

🌟 Thank you, Danielle and Re-Solv!

In support of , today we're talking about men's mental health. ♂️

Too many men struggle with their mental health in silence. Even when something feels off, it can be easy to feel like you have to just keep going. Reaching out for support can be hard, but it is not a weakness, it is a sign of strength. If you're finding things difficult, and feel like something isn't quite right, make sure to get the help you need. Don't be afraid to speak out! 🗣️
