When I first started coaching high-performers, most of them said the same thing:

“I’m still young. I’ve got time.”

Spoiler alert: that time? It flies. 🕒

Here’s the reality:

Feeling strong, mobile, and energised in your 50s isn't luck.
It's what you earn in your 40s.

And here's what I mean:

Because padel is fun…

Until you can’t walk without limping.

Here are the 3 injuries every padel player gets - and exactly how to avoid them.

1️⃣ Calf/Achilles tears
Explosive movement + zero strength work = snap city.
→ Solution: Do straight & bent-knee calf raises 2-3x/week.

2️⃣ Shoulder pain
Weak rotator cuff. Tight lats. Too much overhead smashing.
→ Solution: External rotations, band work & regular shoulder mobility.

3️⃣ Padel elbow (aka Death Grip Syndrome)
Trying to strangle the racket every swing.
→ Solution: Grip strength + wrist extensor work. And chill with the grip.

And today’s post might genuinely change a few lives.

I almost quit the gym in 2013. Here’s what stopped me...

I was ‘spinning my wheels’, exhausted, and frustrated. I’d been training for months and saw no significant results.

I was ready to walk out and never come back.
(but I showed up one more time!)

That day, someone asked me if I was a coach.
Me? I laughed. But that one moment planted a seed.
(seed became obsession, obsession became purpose, purpose became reality!)

I spent every spare minute learning everything I could: biomechanics, nutrition, mindset.

No fancy degrees. Just relentless self-education and trial by fire.
(failed more than I succeeded - but I kept going!)

Friends laughed when I told them I was building a coaching business.
Said it wouldn’t work. Too saturated. Too hard.
(over 3,000 clients later - we’re still growing)

In 2017, I took my first online coaching client. Everyone said online PT was a gimmick.

Now it’s the core of my business.
(results > opinions)

I’ve seen men in their 40s, 50s, 60s and even 70s completely change their lives - because they didn’t quit.

They showed up one more time, too.

That’s the point.

It’s not about being the best.

It’s about not stopping.

This was almost my quitting story.

But instead, it became my purpose.

You Are NOT a Lost Cause 💪

Let’s get one thing straight…

...You’re not “too old.”
...You’re not “too tired.”
...And you’re definitely not “too far gone.”

You’ve just been told a load of nonsense.

The world wants you to believe that slowing down, aching more, and piling on weight is “just part of getting older.”

But that’s rubbish. 🙄

Here’s the reality 👇

1️⃣ You’re not broken - you’re just untrained.
👉 Your body hasn’t “given up.” It’s just reacting to years of stress, bad sleep, skipped meals, and quick fixes.
Give it consistency, and it responds - at ANY age.

2️⃣ Energy isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you create.
👉 Movement gives energy. Strength training builds energy.
That daily walk, that 30-minute workout - it’s not draining you. It’s recharging you.

3️⃣ You don’t need hours a day.
👉 You need a plan that fits your real life - not one that assumes you’re 25, job-free, and living in Lycra.

4️⃣ You haven’t “tried everything.”
👉 You’ve tried the wrong things.
Diets that punish. Workouts that overwhelm. Coaches who don’t understand real life.

My Story:

I've always exercised, first playing football, then in the gym. But through my 20s and 30s I wasn't really seeing the results. I was in decent shape, but too much partying and a dodgy diet meant I never saw the full benefits of the effort I was putting in. Approaching 40, married with 2 kids (now 3) and a high-pressured job, I decided it was time for a change. In the past 18 months I've blasted it, in both the gym and the kitchen, to turn my physique, attitude and energy levels around, and become a qualified personal trainer along the way. Now I'm lean and hungry like a wolf - the GymWolfPT!

​I look back at how I trained and ate when I was younger and wish someone with the knowledge and passion for fitness I have now had invited me into their pack and shown me where I was going wrong. Now I'm making it my mission to do just that for anyone who is GENUINELY COMMITTED to changing their lives.
