MY JOURNEY TO MINDFULNESS // I often think about why am I so passionate about wanting to share simple mindfulness tools and skills with people and specifically younger people. It is because I know first hand, how transformational having these skills can be for coping with modern day life and I wonder how my life might have been if I had found these skills earlier.
I experienced a serious life event 11 years ago which left me lucky to be able to walk. Not sure how I got there but living a life full of stress and burnout definitely was the main contributing factor. At this time, I took a 8 week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course (MBSR) which helped me bed in my mindfulness practice. Since this time, I have had a regular meditation practice and meditation practice.
Breath work, grounding, yoga & mindful movement, a quick walk in nature, hugging a tree, grounding myself, meditating, being present, practicing active listening or mindful eating have all helped me stay present and be in the discomfort and then come out of the other side.
I found the Mindfulness NOW course last year and it appealed as it has taken a lot of the fundamental elements of the globally known MBSR course and combined the MBCT as well as Nick Cooke adding his own learnings to develop a really practical and approachable course that is suitable for all. I loved my MBSR course but I did see a lot of my fellow students really struggle with being able to commit to the amount of practice that was expected of them. Many people struggled to find the time when they had children especially. So this is where I think Mindfulness NOW is perfect for everyone.
