Friday Thoughts 💭

Life has a way of coming full circle, doesn’t it? Today I’m stepping into my very first counselling session in a Village Hall I’ve driven past for more than two decades.

I remember gazing out from the holiday apartments years ago, wishing my daughter could go to school in this peaceful seaside village.

Now, 22 years later, I’m looking at that same view, only this time, I’m here not as a visitor, but working within the heart of this community.

Funny how time brings us back to the places we once only dreamed of.

🌱 Belief in a Client: From A Counsellor’s Lens

In counselling, belief in a client is not a passive hope, it is an active practice. It means holding space for someone’s potential even when they cannot yet see it themselves.

When we believe in a client, we:

• 🪞 Reflect their strengths. We help them recognise the resilience and resources they already carry.
• 🌿 Normalise growth. Struggles are not failures, but part of the process of becoming.
• 🔑 Empower agency. Belief invites clients to step into their own choices with confidence.

From a counselling perspective, belief is relational. It is about co-creating trust, safety, a strong theareputic alliance and possibility.

Every client carries a story. When we choose to believe in that story, we don’t just support their goals, we affirm and validate their humanity and existence.

That affirmation I find in my counselling practice is when the magic happens, and is often the catalyst for lasting change!

🌺Where Memory Rests🌺

We gather not in sorrow’s name,
But in the memory where love became.
A field of poppies, soft and wide,
Where time and tenderness stand side by side.

No trumpet calls, no battle cry,
Just morning light and open sky.
The names we hold, the lives once near,
Still walk beside us, year by year.

They are the warmth in Novembers chill,
The echo on the silent hill.
They are the pause before we speak,
The gentle strength when we feel weak.

So let the silence be our song,
A place where falen hearts belong.
Not lost, but woven through the air,
And in our every breath, they’re always there.

✨Wow what an end to an epic week✨

Just had my 8th article published in the Counselling Directory.

And today, I’m proud. Fiercely proud.
Because at school, I was told I was thick. That I’d never amount to anything.

Yet here I am, writing from the very brain they dismissed.
A brain alive with ideas, concepts, and ways of seeing the world that don’t fit neatly into their boxes, because they’re mine.

The “stupid” brain.
The brain that, years later, scored an IQ of 136.
Intelligent. Creative. Different. Not broken, just not built for their system.

So thank you, maths teacher, for underestimating me. You gave me the fire to prove you wrong.

Can you imagine what it does to a 15-year-old to be told they’ll never make it?
Fast forward, and here I stand, trusting my gut, following my instincts, refusing to shrink.
