🔈 Shout out to HYROX Class members Kat & Linzi who leave for London tomorrow to take on their 4th HYROX event.

They competed as doubles in Glasgow March 2024, Solo in London Dec 2024. They went on to raised £1710 for MacMillan as doubles in March 2025 in Glasgow and on Friday 5th of December will be their 2nd time competing Solo in London. 💪💪

What does Hyrox mean for you I asked Kat
“Doing Hyrox has given me a target for myself, pushed my comfort boundaries and built more structure into workouts/running. The base building plan started me off and the studio classes have been a huge benefit as well as the social aspect of working out with others. I have seen a change in fitness levels and body composition just through a change in workout style. Hyrox training has become something that I do for myself, fitting it in around the boys and working.”

Kat continued “I think it’s important to remember that Hyrox is for everyone and not just the social media hype that we see. Everyone is there for their own reasons, some to be the fastest and others just to complete their own personal race and enjoy it. I certainly won’t be the fastest but I can only hope to improve on my last time 🤞”

I asked Linzi how she’s feeling about Friday and what HYROX means to her.
“I’m ready for my next HYROX, nervous but ready” she continued
“Hyrox gives me a sense of achievement, great training partners, shared suffering and shared victories.
I always like to have a goal to work towards and Hyrox gives me that. A reason to train and focus for the next event. Training for HYROX in the Studio with Ruth and the other class members has become something I look forward to at the end of the week. I feel ready to take on London. I’ve learnt the finish line becomes less about the time and more about the person you had to become to get there “
Linzi said “I’d give any advice it would be to focus on your own race. HYROX is so inclusive, if I can do it anyone can!!!”

The girls kick of on Friday
✅ Linzi @ 15.20 in the 40-44 age group
✅ Kat @ 15.40 in the 30-33 age group

⭐ They will be taking over The PT Studio stories from camera man Leonard 🎥 📸 so be sure to give them lots of encouragement and support 🤩

All the best to you both super excited to hear how you get on - your progress over the years has been really consistent let that shine on Friday. Go in with confidence and finish strong. 💪

🔴 🎥 Short clip from the Youth Performance Training Academy Winter block 🔴

… When young athletes develop strength, speed, and agility early, they gain the physical capacity needed for the demands of higher-level sport as they mature. They can learn sport skills faster and perform them better…

The structure of the Academy helps educate the athletes on proper warm-ups, why we do certain drills at certain times within a session, technical proficiency in movements, how to cool down and what stretch works what muscles to name a few. These athletes also learn to respect the equipment they use, gym etiquette & safety.

The Academy hopes to develop positive habits the young athletes can use as they get older to enhance their training and longevity of their health and fitness.

🔴 The Youth Performance Training Academy 🔴

New block starts next week and I am looking forward to coaching these athletes for another block and welcoming the new ones ☺️

Not only did the group developed speed and power from learning a clean variation in the last block - Tall Hang Clean. They learnt - bar safety, technique and confidence. They also developed coordination, timing and focus by performing the movement to a command as they progressed.

From broom handle to bar and various sequences around this movement I am delighted with their progress and ability. They should all be extremely proud of themselves.

We discuss the importance of the carry over to various sports and sporting examples. It’s important youths have understanding of the whys and hows. This will help them apply their knowledge to their own training later in life too.

Keep being awesome Youth Group and see you all next week 😎

🔴 The Youth Performance Training Academy 🔴

Here is Alex an Orkney Footballer & Badminton Player demonstrating his athletic development in the Plyometric section of the class. He’s performing Single leg jumps, over varying hurdle heights in a multi directional pattern.

Some Benefits include
✅ Explosive Power Development – strengthens the ability to generate force quickly from one leg, useful in sprinting, jumping, and cutting in sports .

✅ Balance & Stability – challenges the ankle, knee, and hip stabilizers, reducing risk of injuries like ankle sprains or ACL tears. This also builds joint stability and strengthens the muscles around the knee and ankle.

✅ Agility & Coordination – improves body control when changing direction or reacting to obstacles/opponents. This can also encourage proprioception (body awareness) for safer, more efficient movement helping become a more robust athlete

🔴 In the Performance Training Academy there is always a programmed plyometric section. I believe it is extremely important section in the class as it helps develop fundamental athletic qualities safely and effectively and allows each athlete to work at their own ability/level under my guidance.
