Happy International Women’s Day 💜

Did you know women’s hearing often stays sharper for longer? Age related hearing changes tend to begin earlier in men, while women typically experience them later in life. Research suggests this may be partly due to hormones, particularly oestrogen, which is thought to help protect the auditory system and support better hearing sensitivity. When hormone levels change later in life, especially around menopause, hearing can begin to decline more quickly.

Today we’re celebrating the incredible women around us and reminding everyone that looking after your hearing is an important part of overall health. 👂

Your hearing plays an important role in how your brain processes information. 👂 When hearing becomes more difficult, the brain has to work harder to fill in missing sounds, which can affect things like memory and concentration over time. 🧠

Looking after your hearing is an important part of looking after your overall wellbeing. Regular hearing checks can help keep everything working as it should.

This World Hearing Day 2026, the theme ‘From communities to schools: Hearing care for all children’ reminds us that hearing health is essential at every stage of life. Our ability to hear plays a vital role in speech and language development, learning, social connection, and overall wellbeing. For children, healthy hearing supports confidence and communication skills. For adults, it helps maintain relationships, independence, and quality of life. 👦

Looking after your ears is simple but powerful. Protect them from loud noises with earplugs or ear defenders, avoid prolonged exposure to high volumes through headphones, keep ears warm in colder weather, and seek professional advice if you notice any changes such as muffled sounds, ringing, or discomfort. Early detection and intervention can prevent further damage and make a lasting difference. 🎧

This World Hearing Day, take a moment to prioritise your hearing health. Because when we care for our ears, we protect our ability to connect with the world around us.

We love music, podcasts, and live events, but we need to remember to listen safely.

There are 2 factors which influence how much of a damaging effect sound can have on the ears:

- How loud the sound is
- How long the exposure to the sound is

Long-term exposure to loud noise can cause permanent hearing damage, even if it doesn’t feel uncomfortable at the time.

From keeping headphone volume below 60% to using ear protection at concerts, small habits can make a huge difference.

Love your ears today, protect them for tomorrow. 👂

We use our ears every moment of the day: for music, conversations, work, and hearing the world around us. Yet hearing health is often overlooked until there’s a problem.

This week, we’re launching Love Your Ears, a campaign focused on protecting, understanding, and caring for your hearing.

Because healthy hearing isn’t something to take for granted.

Did you know that the ears and the heart are connected through the circulatory system? 👂🫀

The inner ear needs a constant supply of oxygen-rich blood to function, and the heart is responsible for pumping this blood.

The inner ear’s tiny blood vessels are very sensitive; conditions that affect circulation, such as hypertension, heart disease or metabolic conditions like diabetes, can reduce blood flow and may contribute to damage of the hair cells that convert sound to nerve signals, which can increase the risk of hearing loss over time.

Hearing assessments should be a part of your overall health checks, as they are important for monitoring hearing ability and identifying hearing loss, particularly for individuals with conditions known to affect circulation.

Look after your heart, and your ears, and book a hearing assessment today at earplace.co.uk 👂
