"When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, my health and well-being took a back seat," 71-year-old Emmie Sanh says.

Emmie became a primary caregiver to my ailing mother, who was in her 90s, and rarely took time for myself. When she turned 68, she knew something needed to change.

"I didn’t know where to start, but after seeing an advertisement, I decided to join a 12-week online fitness challenge run by JoanMacDonald," she says.

Now, Emmie is sharing her workouts and strength journey to her over 70k followers on Instagram, and showing us that strength doesn't come with an age limit. ⚡️

🧠 The Importance of Staying Current in Stroke Rehabilitation 🧠

Recently finished the Core Competencies Online Course on stroke rehab, and wow — what an eye-opener! It gave me a deeper understanding of what really happens during a stroke, both physiologically and in those critical moments right after. 🚑

One of my biggest takeaways? Staying updated isn't optional — it's essential. The field of stroke rehabilitation is always evolving, and what we knew five years ago has already shifted. From emergency response to long-term recovery, having the most current knowledge can truly impact outcomes for patients.

If you're working in healthcare, rehab, or support services — or just passionate about brain health — I highly recommend taking the time to refresh your understanding. It could make all the difference in someone’s recovery journey. 🙌

P🌟 Understanding the Possible Effects of a Stroke 🌟

A stroke can bring about a range of physical and emotional challenges, impacting daily life in many ways. Here's an overview:

💪 Physical Effects:

Hemiplegic gait (weakness on one side, causing difficulty walking)
Drop foot, sometimes managed with a TurboMed brace
Partial recovery of right hand function, though some maladaptive behaviors have developed
💭 Psychological & Emotional Effects:

Anxiety, depression, and a decline in self-confidence
A tendency to mask struggles by projecting a "strong façade," especially during physical activities
It's important to recognize and support those facing these challenges, as recovery involves both physical and emotional healing. 💙
