Digestive Bitters are an amazing tool to have on hand when you may be indulging a little more than usual over the festive period.

Bitters are a mixes tincture of bitter herbs which stimulate production of stomach acid, enzymes and bile, which we need in optimal concentrations for good digestion. If you are eating more than usual, or richer foods than usual, your digestive system may need some extra support!

The bitter taste has also almost entirely disappeared from our plates, and bitters have wonderful health benefits, such as stimulating liver function. Let's bring bitters back in.

However, if you do have digestive symptoms frequently, I encourage you to get in touch to chat through how I can support you with that ❀️

Have you tried digestive bitters before?

Important information on the risks of the insane overuse of antibacterial hand gel and wash at the moment. If we wage mass warfare on microbes, there will be dire consequences.

Antibiotic resistance aside, we eradicate the skins microbiome which makes up an important part of our immune system and the complex ecosystem of bacteria that co-exist within and on us.

What can you do instead? Wash your hands with soap and warm water! Or use an alcohol free, natural hand sanitser if absolutely necessary.

Dr Andrew Kemp, of the University of Lincoln, has said that the overuse of alcohol-based hand gels during the pandemic will allow other bacteria and viruses on our hands to adapt and survive gel use

MICROBIOME & COVID-19πŸ’

A Chinese study has found that the gut microbiota accurately predicted the presence of biomarkers that predict progression to severe illness in covid infection.

In simple terms, the health of your microbiome may impact the likelihood of you being one of the few people who fall seriously ill with covid, predominantly because of our microbiota's impact on our inflammatory response and cytokine production. Especially in older people. An unbalanced flora skewed towards the presence of pro-inflammatory species of bacteria appears to be a risk factor. These are the species of bacteria that are linked with a lack of fibre in the diet. Diversity of plant foods is so key!

No suprise here really as we are slowly lewrning that our microbial inner selves are implicated on all levels of health and disease. The more we learn about why this virus leads to serious illness and death for some people, the more we can empower ourselves to take control of our health. Can we as a society take this oppurtunity to move into living in balance with our bodies and the planet? We are losing so much diversity from our microbiome and our beautiful planet. A paralell. 🌍❀

You can read the study on preview here:

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading globally with high disparity in the susceptibility of the disease severity. Identification of the key underlying factors for this disparity is highly warranted. Here we describe constructing a proteomic risk score based on 20 blood proteomic biomarkers which predic...

More evidence on vitamin C emerging from China, I so hope that the NHS and health policy makers across the West look seriously at bringing in vitamin and mineral supplementation into main stream healthcare, it really does have the potential to improve people's resilience to infections like Covid 19 and very probably save lives.

I'm reccomending at least 2000 mg vitamin c per day and keep your zinc and selenium levels adequate too. Take care all x
