Grief does not stop when someone goes to work.
Everyone should be treated fairly at work, including people who are grieving after someone close to them has died.
We believe employers should make reasonable changes to support bereaved employees.
We’re calling for all organisations to:
- Have a clear bereavement policy
- Offer at least two weeks of paid bereavement leave, taken flexibly
- Base support on the impact of the loss, not just the relationship
- Train managers to apply policies fairly and with compassion

Cruse Bereavement Support NI is supporting the Lifeline campaign.
We are helping amplify this campaign across our networks, teams, and communities to highlight the importance of talking openly about anxiety, distress, and crisis — and ensuring people know
that support is always available.
Lifeline provides free, confidential support 24/7, delivered by trained counsellors who are ready to
listen and help at any time. Call Lifeline on 0808 808 8000 or visit www.lifelinehelpline.info to find out more.

The family-centred cancer care research team at UIster University are conducting a study exploring the needs of families who are experiencing, or have experienced social or financial hardship, when an adult with significant caregiving responsibilities (such as a parent) has terminal cancer.

or
another adult family member who has been bereaved to cancer

To be eligible, you must meet at least two of the following criteria:

be unemployed,
