On Tuesday, we were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Cllr Ruairí McHugh as he met with members of staff and two of our inspiring Youth Advisory Group, Abigail and Aideen, ahead of our workshop on Understanding Children and Young People’s Grief to highlight Children’s Grief Awareness Week.

The Mayor spent time hearing directly from staff and the young people about the Somewhere For Us project, the services it provides and how young people’s voices are at the heart of why this week matters.

This week has been an opportunity to shine a light on the needs of bereaved children and young people — and the importance of ensuring they feel seen, heard, and supported.💜

This week is and we want to highlight the incredible young people in our Somewhere For Us Youth Advisory Group. They have faced the heartbreak of bereavement and are now using their experience to support others. Some of them met recently for a Grief Ambassador workshop and take time to remember their loved ones. Their courage, compassion and determination to help other bereaved children and young people is inspiring.

We are currently looking for new Youth Advisory Group members in all Health Trust areas. If you know a bereaved young person who would be interested in joining the YAG, please email somewhereforus@cruse.org.uk for more information. 💜

How many times have you said "I'm fine" when you're feeling anything but fine?
After someone dies, you might not feel fine- that's understandable and ok. Grief is incredibly difficult, and we all experience it in different ways.
