If a muscle is tight, shortened, or fatigued, the stride changes, power decreases, symmetry fades, engagement gets harder and it feels like you’re constantly in a battle with your horse’s body.

Massage restores softness, elasticity, and flow, the foundation of correct movement.

DM me the word “TENSION” for support with your horse’s movement.

Massage is more than relaxation, it is the foundation of healthy movement.

When a muscle is warm, soft, and responsive, the body moves with more freedom, elasticity, and strength.

✅ Increases circulation- warmer, more responsive muscles

✅ Reduces tension- smoother, freer movement

✅ Improves stride length- muscles can lengthen properly

✅ Supports symmetry- less compensation + better balance

✅ Helps build power- stronger muscle engagement

And when we provide consistent, targeted support, we start to see clear improvements in our horses’ comfort and performance.

Save this post as your reminder of what massage does for your horse’s body.

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly chasing little issues… a bit of stiffness here, a stride that feels uneven there, but never quite get to the root cause?

It’s easy to assume the problem lies in the joint itself, but often, what we see in the joint actually starts in the muscles.

❌ A tight hamstring or glute can limit how the limb moves.
❌ A tense back can create compensations further down the chain.
❌ And over time, that tension builds, putting more stress on the joints that are already doing so much work.

The truth is, healthy muscles are the best support system your horse’s joints could ask for.

They absorb shock, maintain alignment, and allow your horse to move freely and comfortably.

That’s why this month’s focus on joint health has been such an important reminder, every part of the body is connected.

Through bodywork, groundwork, and ridden exercises, we can help your horse:

✨ Move with better stability and coordination
✨ Build strength evenly across both sides
✨ Reduce strain on the joints long-term

If you’d like to head into winter knowing your horse’s body is supported from head to tail,

I wanted to share a little more from Diamond’s time with me on her rehab journey, to show you all a little insight into the couple of months she was here and the different aspects of her rehab.

When she first arrived, Diamond was on box rest for 3 weeks whilst she had her lavage in place. During this time it was crucial to keep her as supple and mobile as possible, when she arrived her posture was quite poor and she tended to stand with a hollow back and her hocks out behind her, very much loading her shoulders.

Swipe through to see some of the ways in which I support Diamond during her box rest.

If you’d like any support with your horse whilst they are on box rest or during their rehab, DM me the word “REHAB” to have a chat.

Picture 1: Diamond came to me following treatment for an eye injury and arrived with a lavage so I was able to administer medication without touching her eye. She had this on for 3 weeks so was on box rest and hand walking until it was removed.

Picture 2: Her posture when she arrived

Picture 3: Her picture when she left

Picture 4: Working with balance pads while on box rest to help relieve tension in the shoulders and start to improve her posture and core stability.

Picture 5: Extension stretch, good for stretching over the top line and helping to build the thoracic sling stability.

Picture 6: Bodywork session, aiming to improve suppleness and rid any tension and restrictions from being on box rest.

When cold weather or reduced turnout restricts your horse’s movement, muscles tighten, joints stiffen, and performance drops.

Even 10 minutes of purposeful movement can make a difference!

This Black Friday I am giving you and your horse the gift of my FREE stretching guide, because your horse deserves to feel amazing.

Winter often brings a pattern I see time and time again:

🐴 Horses feel stiffer behind
🐴 Riders feel more tension under saddle
🐴 Work becomes less consistent

But what’s really happening is that cold weather slows blood flow to the muscles.

Tight, cold muscles don’t cushion joints as effectively, and horses start to move differently to protect themselves.

Before long, you’re seeing shorter strides, difficulty stepping under, or reluctance to canter.

It’s not naughtiness, it’s discomfort.

To discuss how I can support you and your horse this winter, DM me the word “WINTER”

When we think about joint health, we often focus on the joint itself, the bones, cartilage and ligaments.

But after attending a recent dissection day, one thing really stood out to me 👇

It’s not just the joint that matters, it’s the muscles surrounding it.

When those muscles are tight, weak, or compensating, they stop doing their job as natural shock absorbers. That extra load has to go somewhere, and it’s often the joints that pay the price.

But when your horse’s muscles are healthy, balanced, and functioning properly, they protect the joints underneath.

That’s how we build long-term comfort, strength, and soundness.

So next time you’re thinking about how to support your horse’s joints this winter, start with their muscles. That’s where comfort truly begins.

Save this post as your reminder that muscles and joints work as one, care for one, and you protect the other.

After attending a hock and stifle dissection day recently, I came away even more certain of one thing, the best results come from a multi-pronged approach.

The connections between the soft tissues, fascia, and supporting muscles were incredible, and it really reinforced how much these systems depend on each other.

It’s not just about the joint itself, it’s about how everything around it works together.

That’s why I take a holistic approach, combining massage, groundwork, and ridden support to build strength and stability from every angle.

If you want to understand what’s really going on behind your horse’s movement, DM me the word “MOVEMENT” to have a chat.

Winter doesn’t just challenge our routines, it challenges our horses’ bodies too.

❌ Frozen fields and muddy gateways mean less movement.

❌ Colder mornings mean shorter warm-ups.

And those little compromises add up.

Tight muscles = less support for the joints.

Less support = more strain on vital joints such as the hock and stifle.

It’s a cycle that often only shows up as resistance under saddle or subtle unevenness, and can be easily missed.

This is your reminder to keep an eye out for subtle changes in your horse’s movement and behaviour. Be sure to save this post!

Do you really know how much your horse’s muscles do for their joints?

1️⃣ The hock and stifle are incredible joints, but they rely heavily on surrounding muscles to stay strong and stable.

2️⃣ When those muscles tighten, weaken, or fatigue, the joints have to compensate.

3️⃣ Over time, that can lead to uneven wear, inflammation, or reduced range of motion.

4️⃣ Keeping muscles healthy is the best joint protection you can give your horse.
