Labelling pre-packed food
Pre-packed food is any food that’s put into packaging before being put on sale and that cannot be altered without opening or changing the packaging.

Information to display on labels or packaging
You must display the following information (mandatory information) on the product packaging or on a label attached to the packaging.

Information on labels must be difficult to remove (indelible).

Your labelling must allow the customer to see all the information at the same time (it must be in the same field of vision).

All food and drink is subject to general food labelling requirements, and any labelling provided must be accurate and not misleading. The label must display certain mandatory information in a way that is set out by the law of the country you intend to sell to.

Have you checked the compliance of your products for export? The first important factor is to understand for which market are you selling to and whether have you got all the regulatory information on the label?

Our Compliance Audit covers different countries regulations and can help to identify if there are issues with your product packaging. We can help you convert your labels to compliant labels for other export or import markets.

STOP PRESS: Major Ireland Label Regulation Change

At Divine Label Compliance we make a point that regular label compliance reviews are important because regulations change constantly. If your brand is selling in the EU then this will certainly be wider than just Ireland.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has signed into law the Public Health (Alcohol) (Labelling) Regulations 2023 and the remaining provisions of Section 12 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act.

Section 12 and the Labelling Regulations together introduce comprehensive health labelling of alcohol products sold in Ireland and provide that similar health information will be available for customers in licensed premises.

The law provides that the labels of alcohol products will state the calorie content and grams of alcohol in the product. They will warn about the risk of consuming alcohol when pregnant and will also warn of the risk of liver disease and fatal cancers from alcohol consumption.

There is a three-year lead-in time built into the law in order to give businesses significant time to prepare for the change. The law will apply from 22 May 2026.

Let us help you prepare for this change: www.labelcompliance.co.uk
