Rothwell Rhubarb Tarts WI Rothwell Rhubarb Tarts WI is a local group for women. A warm welcome awaits women of all ages. We look forward to meeting you!

Make new friends, learn something new, share your skills and most importantly, have fun. We hold our meetings on the second Wednesday of each, 11 times a year, 7pm to 9pm.

What a great meeting we had on Thursday!

Our speakers were Kevin Sharpe & Stan Hardy - two of the Kings Deputy Lord Lieutenants.

They were not only very interesting and entertaining but didn't shy away from answering questions about 'current events'.

I dont think any of us knew the amount of work involved and enjoyed hearing about some entertaining episodes when looking after the Royal Family.

I think they may get asked back!

We had a great turnout and a record 6 guests, all of whom said how enjoyable the evening had been and said they would be joining in April.

Our next meeting is 19th March abd its our AGM. Time to celebrate our year ending and look forward to what's in store during the coming year.

If you would like to come along as a guest, please do. Our AGM's are always lovely social events and you'd be made very welcome.

Did you know it's the National Year of reading? Did you also know that we have a book group called the Rhubarb Tarts book chatters? We meet monthly to share our views and to celebrate the National Year of Reading we thought we'd share our views with you. We are currently reading It's all Greek to me by Andrea Christodoulou, look out for our review towards the end of the month. Let us know if you've read it and tell us what you thought of it, looking for suggestions for a good book? Just ask? Or have a recommendation for us please let us know. In the meantime we hope you're enjoying a good book 📖 😀

Hello everyone

Just a bit of an update about what we've been up to.

I think we all feel a bit down in January/February after the build up to Christmas and New Year. Once the festivities are over, everything goes a bit flat doesnt it, unless of course you have a holiday booked - lucky you!

At RRTWI, our members have joined together to beat those post Christmas blues. Besides our monthly meeting at St Mary's (a much enjoyed Quiz Night) we've had a busy few weeks. Supper Club at Pemberley's on Walefield Road - a really good night with good food and service and one to re-visit in the future. We also had afternoon tea in the library at Oulton Hall and this week, we'll be gathering for our monthly Coffee morning at Salute. Always a nice get-together for a good natter. And to shed all the extra pounds, we have our monthly walk coming up, followed by lunch at Salute (a popular venue for us). I mustn't forget our Book Club who meet monthly to discuss all things literature, have a good laugh and a bite to eat.

Whoever said the WI was all Jam & Jerusalem, hasn't had a month with Rothwell Rhubarb Tarts!

Our next meeting is on 19 February, when 2 of the King's Deputy Lord Lieutenants will be joining us, to tell us about the work they do and their involvement with the Royal family. I've promised them cake, so I'd better get the recipe books out!

For some months, the members of Rothwell Rhubarb Tarts WI have been busy knitting, crocheting and felting, making something very special indeed.

Hello

I haven't posted anything lately, but that's not to say we haven't been busy!

We dont have a meeting in September, the idea being to give the committee a month off, but I can assure you that never happens!

Instead, we, in collaboration with MHA, Rothwell, put on a free Afternoon Tea Party for 60 members of our community. RRTWI contributed all the food and a number of our members prepared and served it. MHA provided the raffle and a singer, Rachel, to entertain our guests. All in all, a lovely afternoon.

It was also the Rothwell Autumn Fair in September and, as usual, we had a stall selling cakes & preserves in Rothwell Methodist Church Hall. A great afternoon and the money raised not only helps RRT's but also a local charity (more on that in coming months).

We are very proud to be doing something quite special for Rememberence Day this year, at the Cenotaph in Rothwell. Not quite finished yet, but lots of our members have been busy working on it over the past few months and we're almost done. Please keep an eye open, from 8th November, to see what we have done.

It's now October (where has this year gone???) And our meetings have resumed. Our Speaker this month was Simon Michael, author of 11 published books. So good! He was both entertaining and interesting and everyone present has asked for him to come back next year.

Our membership now stands at 60 members and still growing. I can honestly say I have never come across a more caring and lovely group of women.

Our next meeting is on 20 November. We are at St Mary's Catholic Church Hall (LS26 0EP). The doors open at 6.30pm. Why not come along as a guest (£5) and meet us? The Air Ambulance are coming along to tell us all about the fabulous work they do.
